Out of those name programs Toledo has beaten none had as much talent as this Hurricane team and only Pittsburgh was ranked higher.
I think that article pretty much nailed it. When you are playing a highly ranked team with more overall talent and more overall speed your margin for error is very, very small if you hope to come out with a win---and the Rockets certainly exceed that margin on a number of occasions. The Rockets left way too many points on the field for various reasons and then the wheels came completely off the wagon during that 3rd quarter stretch as the article describes. Still the Rockets did a nice job to rally back to within 8 points before Miami's superiority once again imposed itself on the contest. Going into the game, the prospect for a win was a long shot but still the Rockets showed enough game to reveal that they could have won had they executed better and avoided costly penalties, so in that sense it is not incorrect to view this game as a "lost opportunity" even though it was always a very long shot.

As to the MAC season, there is not a game left that the Rockets are not capable of winning; however, they should be challenged by at least 4 of the teams on their remaining schedule and given the strong tendency for the Rockets to consistently find a way to lose at least one crucial late season game (that usually costs them a trip to Ford Field) in recent years, I think that it is too soon yet to start planning for a trip to Detroit on the first Friday in December......but I would keep the date open just in case they can finally beat the November curse.

Predictions their final W-L?

I'm looking at the Tulsa-N Mexico score and wondering if the path to All-American RB doesn't run through Toledo. We've played three or four candidates already. 03-wink I'm not sure we're a measuring stick for their talent development or their coaching. I did think Miami was covering our receivers well, even first half but Woodsmith 03-wink and the receivers were really on. With a couple exceptions, Whiteside was dropping dimes. Most of those long runs were not RB made IMO. He was fast but the holes were wide and he was generally unchallenged. Or RBs would have done the same.

We have good talent. I don't think we are a very good team and I'm not convinced the coaches are organized on the sidelines.

I've been around long enough to remember many of our top 25 teams and we aren't quite there yet. Candle is early in his career and hopefully no impatient P-5 team tries to promote him too soon.

There hasn't been a lot separating Iowa St from Iowa from Penn St. As Campbell goes, so does Candle I think. But Cambell got the staff and Candle's is still developing. I think that's what holds him here. On his own abilities, he'd be taken I THINK. But would a bigger program be confident he could build a staff, if feeling his present staff wasn't yet up to the bigger challenge.

Penalties and delay of game: these go to coaching. I don't think THEY will be seen ready to move up and resolving those issues against MAC competition might not be enough. It's not just Candle that's "young," is it?"

The noise level in the stadium was incredible. It certainly was responsible for some of the Rockets' 10 penalties for 77 yards.
Rockets represented themselves very well. It was extremely loud in that stadium on 3rd down and that made it tough to hear snap counts and audibles. Tough to emulate that and of course we hadn't had that environment yet this year.

The O-line, while disappointing in run blocking, did a pretty good job of giving Logan time to throw.

Dropped passes really hurt us. And giving up the 3rd and 21 really really hurt us.

The run defense is obviously bad but the D-backs did a pretty good job staying with Miami's receivers. The were consistently in tight coverage but sometimes just couldn't quite make the play. They will continue to improve.

Agreed, you all definitely have a good team! I was impressed; many mental mistakes throughout and still played even (or better) through 2.5 quarters. Should win the MAC this year! Yes, the stadium's redesign made it about twice as loud as it was before and thus creating a lot more penalties for opponents on offense. Instead of being so open and letting all the sound go out, they purposefully designed it so that it echoes and gets louder in there, makes crowds of 50k sound like 75k.
