I have some theories but I'd like to hear an answer from the board. Most of my favorite bands and song writers have a liberal lean at least. I try to ignore their politics but it would be nice to see more really talented conservative artists (musicians especially for me).
My theory is that artists tend to be more idealistic and think about how the world can be.

Conservatives tend to have a less than positive view of the future and instead focus on how things use to be.

lol, they also tend to be coke heads. j/k........kinda.
If you're a liberal, conservatives will still buy your albums, watch your movies, etc. The reverse isn't true.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I happen to be a Rush fan. Anyone who knows anything about Rush is that they are ultra conservative.

Hollywood, and the entertainment industry in general (includes musicians and daytime/morning tv shows) are much like Michael Jackson's Doctors to many in America in my opinion.

Rush is not "ultra-conservative", and that you need to lie about that shows just how delusional you really are.

Clearly you don't know anything about the group. Neil Peart has repeatedly said that their lyrics are inspired by Ayn Rand.
Sometimes, the entertainment industry will "arrange" things for impact. Much like the song writers. The message is only as good as the messenger. If the price is right, the wheel can land where it has maximumm impact. Sometimes.

I don't think that's the case at all. Liberals and conservatives can both be optimistic and pessimistic. I think it has more to do with the mind's default view on many issues. I agree 100% that liberals tend to be more idealistic like you said. They also tend to be less logical in my opinion but at the same time more empathetic. The problem is that their views on the solutions to problems (which they'd love to fix b/c of their empathy) are rarely rooted in a logical path forward. Take this line for example....

Ten Years After - I'd Love to Change the World

Quote:Tax the rich, feed the poor
Til there are rich no more
Don't you have to seperate the "performers" from the writing? I mean, I can't stop this feeling that oops I did it again.

Tell me about it. My favorite bands include the Grateful Dead, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and various reggae artists most of you have never heard of!
There's also probably a lot of self-selection and self-censorship when the creative industry is already so far left.

I imagine as well that there is some science behind tying creativity to a biological sense of empathy, and empathy is certainly a more liberal trait than it is a conservative trait.

Most of the musicians I listen to write their own music. I feel bad for people who listen to manufactured garbage. 07-coffee3

Interesting choice of song considering they say this aw well.

"Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity"

Gays weren't accepted in any community other than their own back then. It also has nothing to do with tax / welfare theory.

Slightly off topic but why does the modern left expect homosexuals to be FOR pro big government wealth redistribution?

They also don't live in the real world. They aren't out trying to get a real job or start a business. Small businessmen are the group most reliably conservative.
