Just saw Lindys, Athlon and Street Smiths. We were picked 4,5 and 7th. Bummed. Was hoping 2nd. Seems the consensus is the conference will be better and that we are a dark horse contender but not expected to be top 3.

On the plus side, better chance of exceeding expectations.
Why on earth should we be 2nd?

Explain? I need the pep talk
Another plus, I can expect to get alot of yardwork done this coming March.
That sounds about right. We lost three starters off of a 19 win team. Fans expect big contributions from a few freshmen and for some unproven players to step up into larger roles. All of those are unknowns. Fourth and fifth are mostly based on JJ's consistency as a coach...seventh is based off of the known quantities returning.

Personally, I think we'll be a top four team. I have a lot of confidence that at least two of our freshmen will be able to replace the production of Baker and Taylor, and our returners will be able to replace Talley's contributions by committee. I think we'll have the most athletic roster in the last 20 years, with some real offensive firepower. If JJ can get these guys to play defense, we should be very competitive by the end of the year. I think we'll go into the tournament as the fourth seed, but have the momentum to be favored against pretty much everyone in the league.
The last time we saw this team on the court, they managed to score 2 points in the first 10 and a half minutes of the most important game of the season against one of the worst defensive teams in the country. Those types of scoring droughts were more the rule than the exception last season. And we lost the second leading scorer off of that team.

I like our freshmen, but I don't expect them to be the solution yet.
I would think on paper this is the best team JJ has had since Trey Freeman and the NIT F4. I've been saying for years that my opinion was this year is the culmination of JJs recruiting, system and ability. We have 2 good interior players, a good point guard in Caver and shooting guard in BJ. JJ's had 5 years to get some shooters in here, and it seems he may have finally succeeded with the freshman this year. Its put up or shut up time for JJ and the Monarchs. NCAA or new coach, with the caveat that if he signs a top 50 recruiting class I might give him one more year. I expect MUCH more from the Monarchs than what JJ has delivered so far, but am optimistic about this season.

Losing Talley plus our two best defenders and best rebounder in a defense first system, I don't know why you would expect to be picked any higher. Sure, it's possible that Green, Godwin, and Huiett could be awesome and everyone else improves and adds an element of consistency, but why would a pundit predict that to happen? I think 4-7 is a pretty spot on range for a prediction.

Or we could go glass half full and say there's little chance that we go routinely 7-10 minutes without scoring anymore now that we have a couple players who are drastically better shooters moving forward and will score points more consistently and at a greater pace.
B'Zilla, that's just crazy talk. You musta got lost on your way to the Kool-Aid stand

JJ's had his time, if we don't go to the "dance" this year he needs to go!

For the 7th year in a row. That must be a nice looking yard

As fans, sure, let's run with that. This is about the predictions by Lindys, Athlon and Street Smiths. Not sure why they would run with that. They are going to make the safe choice. Hopefully, they are wrong.

I hope it happens, just not going to bet on it.

(And if this freshman class makes that big of a difference, then either JJ hit the jackpot in 2017, or it is a reflection of what he has recruited up until now.)
My guess is if we do see the jackpot, posters will choose to pounce on the latter.
My guess is that Jones will be criticized either way. We play well; he should have done so and so. We do poorly, well, thats self explanatory. A small number of posters won't even give him credit for the success in the first 2-3 years.
