According to Paul Myerberg:

29. Toledo
68. WMU
69. NIU
80. EMU
82. Ohio
91. CMU
99. Miami
107. Ball State
112. Akron
113. Buffalo
123. Kent
125. BGSU
Very interesting.

BTW, to show how life (and sports) is so unpredictable.

Fans at EMU and probably BG remember that EMU thought they had a deal with Dino Babers who then caught the open position at BG. EMU finally settled for Chris Creighton.

Dino stayed what two years. BG won and now they have a new HC and at (or near) the bottom of the MAC while EMU is flying high (bad metaphor - birds of a feather not flying at the same altitude these days).

I wouldn't yet put BG on the bottom or EMU as "flying high" just yet. MAC play hasn't started, look at Miami last year along with CMU. But yes Creighton appears to have EMU in the right direction.

If you have lived through the nearly 30 years of misery, consecutive losing streak and antagonism both within and outside EMU and the MAC, you too would consider a 2-0 start coming off a bowl bid "flying high." Perspective.

Dave should go back through the EMU record books and see when the last time EMU started with TWO wins over FBS schools.

I doubt it has ever happened. Kind of a once-in-a-hundred years????

Matter of fact, EMU until recent years had few wins over FBS teams outside of the MAC.

I think our only 2 - 0 start in my memory as under English and the schools beaten were Howard and Alabama State, I think.

EDIT: Quickly looked it up. We had a few 3 - 0 starts in the late 80s, but one game was Youngstown State and the two wins were MAC schools.

Those years were 88 and 89. Dave remembers them. The good ole days of EMU FB.
If BG gets a good QB, suddenly they will look a lot better. Like most MAC teams.

The guy looked like Johnny friggin' Unitas against us last year. We barely beat them for the seventh consecutive year.
Interesting, those rankings have Toledo as the top ranked G5 just ahead of Boise & USF.

Just glad they don't have Matt freakin' Johnson anymore.

You got that right. When they had that that guy they beat us every never.
Funny though how the write-up stops at Iowa for consideration in the last few spots for the top 25. Can't have a G-5 in consideration. The 5 schools must be better by conference affiliation alone.

I think this weekend will start to tell us if the top Mac teams warrant consideration or not, certainly Toledo's next week game will.
Toledo looked really good last night (at least on offense. Lol).

Toledo plays Miami (FL) Saturday. The Hurricanes missed two games because of the hurricane and I read missed somewhere between 8 - 10 days of practice. (they will practice in Orlando, not at their campus).

This should be a very, very opportune time for a sharp TOL team to take on a MIA team which probably is as rusty as a team can be at week #4. Teams should be in mid-season form.
