Anybody catch the Bears game last weekend? I couldn't happen to think of Wolfe when I was watching this Cohen kid. He's small like Wolfe, 5′ 6″ and 179 lbs and the way he runs reminds me so much of my days watching Wolfe at NIU.

Couldn't help but think what if Wolfe was given a better opportunity when he was drafted, either with the Bears or another team. A team that used him to his strengths. Cohen seems a little faster than Wolfe but they both have that quickness and elusiveness. He reminds me of Darren Sproles as well.

Gee, why didn't they make Cohen continually run straight into the line like they did with Wolfe?

Wolfe never had the acceleration or top end speed that Cohen does. Wolfe relied a little more on power and subtle agility. It was a great skill set for the college game, Cohen is a much better fit for the NFL.

Wolfe beefed up and added too much weight imo since they used him like he was Ironhead Heyward. A slimmer Garrett was one one of the best college football players ever.

Huh??? Wolfe ran a 4.39 40 at pro day. 2.51 20-yd dash and 1.46 10-yd dash, compared to 4.42, 2.59 and 1.54. And he had very good acceleration.

The difference is that the coaches then had no idea how to use a little guy. Plus the Bears had an atrocious offensive line when he was there.

ding ding ding

correct
Hub Arkush once said that If Wolfe played now he'd be a stud because of the different offenses. Of course going to the Bears hurt him too.
Cohen gets thrown around and battered (like wolfe), but can break a tackles with his quickness and power. Wolfe had good speed (not pro breakaway though) but not the same quickness and definitely not the open field power. Wolfe could not break tackles like this kid and didn't have the east west ability. Nowhere near as dynamic. He was easily overpowered.

There was a reason he didn't catch on elsewhere.

Great in college does not always translate into the pros.

I remember one play in particular for Wolfe and the Bears. He caught the ball in the short flat, had a blocker who had a tackle engaged. Wolfe ran right past the defender except he stuck out his arm and stopped Wolfe in his tracks. Yes, a 1-arm tackle in the open field. To me that is the reason why he didn't have more success.

Yep. I'm not sure what happened to Wolfe when he got to the Bears, but he would go down from the slightest of contact. While I agree the Bears used him incorrectly, he was nothing like the back he was in college.
I remember 3 specific plays for Wolfe. 2 awesome screens where he tore off 20+ yard receptions, 1 against the packers and 1 against the saints.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBQnOF0Phns

The 3rd play was against the Packers and he got hurdled by a linebacker giving up a sack.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZNF_dj6tLw

Agreed though, if he got more shots think he could have had a decent little career as a skat back.

Hey! That screen pass video is from my YouTube account. I had to add the music because i recorded it from the news and adamly was yapping over it.
While Cohen had a very good first game, the kid has played ONE NFL game thus far and y'all are already crowning his ass!!!!

I took a little ride out to Bearbonnais to see the team practice. Cohen stood out. His speed was visible even in practice.

He did take a couple of bad hits in last weeks game so he'll need 2 figure that out otherwise his career will end sooner than later.

The moment they asked him to gain weight, is career was on the decline.
