Quote:BRISTOL, Conn. — ESPN distanced itself from anchor Jemele Hill’s tweets after she called President Donald Trump “a white supremacist” and “a bigot.”

“The comments on Twitter from Jemele Hill regarding the president do not represent the position of ESPN,” the network tweeted Tuesday from its public relations department’s account. “We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate.”

On Monday night, in a series of exchanges with other Twitter users, Hill said, “Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists.”

Hill, an African-American co-host of the 6 p.m. broadcast of “SportsCenter,” also added that “Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period.”

In another tweet, she said, “Donald Trump is a bigot,” and went on to criticize his supporters, adding “The height of white privilege is being able to ignore his white supremacy, because it’s of no threat to you. Well, it’s a threat to me.”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a news conference on Wednesday that she was unsure whether the president was aware of Hill’s comments.

“But I think that’s one of the more outrageous comments that anyone could make, and certainly something that I think is a fire-able offense by ESPN,” Sanders said.

Disney-owned ESPN did not elaborate on any possible punishment for Hill, and she was on Tuesday evening’s “SportsCenter” broadcast as usual.

While many Twitter users called for Hill to be fired, unemployed NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick expressed his support, tweeting “We are with you @jemelehill.”

Kaepernick, who remains unsigned after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers, received plenty of criticism — and support — after kneeling during the national anthem before games last season to protest police brutality.

Jemele Hill is no more an expert on politics than anyone else. Her comments are nothing but personal feelings - to which she is entitled.

However, as an ESPN employee her actions reflect directly on the network. Frankly, I'm surprised they said anything given the completely agree with her.

They must've caught some serious backlash from people.

Says all that needs to be said right there.

Didn't schilling send a "tweet" on his own time? How'd that work out for him at espn? There are others too that I don't recall.

This person, whoever she is, was back at work Tuesday evening. After she calls the President of the United States and 65 MILLION other Americans white supremacists and bigots.

This is another reason, though an ancillary one, I'm interested in the cord cutting thread. I don't watch that channel anymore, I don't like much of anyone on that channel anymore, I don't want pay for that crap anymore. Isn't this the single most expensive channel on most pay TV packages?

No thanks.

I'm hoping ESPN continues to see a drop in their pay-TV subscriber base while they're committed to all those high-dollar league and conference payments.

I hope their business model is getting turned upside down.

It's very tempting, once you reach the top, to believe you'll always be on top. It makes you do some idiotic things sometimes.
Question just for clarification purposes, did the tweet come from her ESPN work account of from a separate personal account?

Thanks.

I assume it was her personal account.

Regardless, that doesn't necessarily exempt her. Many employers expect public behavior to fall in line to prevent unnecessary negative PR and to present the correct image.

It was her personal account. Like Curt Schilling did when they fired him. FTR, her show is awful

Yes, its the double standard that is the problem. What people do on their own time on their own twitter and Facebook (assuming of course they aren't advocating violence) should be no business of their employer. But with ESPN it only matters if they are conservative. Very McCarthyish of them.

Schilling is white that's why it was okay to fire him. This person is not and while she's complaining about white privilege she herself will be exempt because she's Black. There's a lot of Black privilege going around that the same Black people don't see. It's the Black privilege bubble that is saving their sorry S'es.
Schilling kept doing it after being told to stop, so let's stop using him. Now Linda Koln being suspended and the tennis guy getting fired shows a clear double standard

Schilling posted a freaking MEME to his facebook page and was fired.

Why?

Violation of msespn's "Inclusion policy". Now, does calling 50% of the voting public white supremacists and bigots sound inclusive to anyone? Riiiiiiiight.

And there she was, right back on the air the next day.

What's that saying about leftists and double standards? Oh yea, that's right.

Stop what, exactly? Being a conservative? Was he calling people names and making racial accusations? If he was, I condemn that too. I'm honestly asking cause I don't know the entire story. but if he was simply commenting on current events or something, but from a more conservative viewpoint, that's fire-able, but THIS is not? Wow.
Pretty sure this lady doesn't know what white supremacy is.
#ESPNisISIS
She had to kinda sorta apologize. It had the sincerity of my 2 year old apologizing to my 1 year old
Your 2 year old called your 1 year old a racist?

The further these generations get from being actual victims of real racism, the more they will perpetuate the idea that they are victims. They're taught as children that they have always been victims, are victims, and always will be victims. It's hard to see truth when you've been brainwashed as such.

The chains of victim reasoning need to be broken as the chains of slavery were, and as the chains of real civil rights were. Until that happens, there's no way of each side understanding the other. One side comes to the table with a perceived handicap they don't want to let go of, and the other side comes to the table with the inability to provide anything that will satisfy.

ESPN is doubling down on their liberal agenda as a new report from Fox Sports’ Clay Travis revealed that longtime SportsCenter host Linda Cohn was suspended by the network for criticizing the network of being too political.

Sources told Travis on Tuesday night that ESPN president Jon Skipper told Cohn to not come into work and to think about what she said.
