Pros

JMU TV is awesome. I rewatched the first half when I got home from the game. It's our mini Texas network. It appeared to me we were able to influence the presentation in favorable ways for JMU. Next to FBS, this might be the best opportunity to market JMU football. Would be very happy if this is more than one year. Great way for alumni to get to know and feel the program. Great for recruits.

Defense for the first three quarters was dominant and overwleming. What you would hope for in this game against a ETSU.

Special teams had a wonderful day. Almost had three returns for TDs. Whoever is coaching special teams is doing a great job.

Passing game is good, but the routes don't seem to be as crisp as last year. Where did Riley Stapleton come from? Who says white men can't jump? 03-lmfao I think Klu and Alls will provide a lot to the passing game.

It appears Houston is doing what I had hoped and not just giving away Cole Johnson's redshirt opportunity. I'm sure he won't hesitate to use Cole if needed like he did last year, but it appears Houston won't waste a year for mop up duties.

Love Brian maximizing his running skills, but he's taking too many uneeded hits especially in a game versus a low 1AA.

And an eye opener in yesterday's game - The o-line is not clearly where it needs be
or where I hoped it was after last week's game. There was no place for anyone to run. Against a team like ETSU - the eight in the box does not give me as much comfort. Also - I frequently counted 7 in the box on times I counted. We have a ways to go. I did see Liam in some on special teams. Would not surpise me if some of these young transfers don't start to get more time and could be starters by year end.

I think Marshall will soon be our best back. While it was hard to tell with no holes to run through I thought Marshall was more impactful last night than Johnson. I think he's going to be something special for us although we have 3 great backs.

Oh yeah - was great in the Club to finally able to take alcohol to your seats during the game. Not sure why this was not allowed in the past.

Thanks for the post. Here is some of my reaction to what you say:

1. They need to take Schor out of games like yesterday that are already foregone conclusions. He's going to need to come out and it makes sense for someone like Cole Johnson (whatever his name is) to fill the void. Schor took too many shots yesterday, as the astute color man pointed out.
2. No running room for sure, but ETSU defense sold out to stop the run and Torbush is a good defensive coach. Leota, the South Carolina transfer, wasn't even suited up yesterday....thought I saw Donohue (sic) suited up. It's a young line save the two guys on the left side, so growth and development is to be expected.
3. I think Johnson is the better back of the two right now because of his receiving skills and his lateral elusiveness. Marshall is strictly a north/south runner.
4. The passing game was impressive yesterday in that many of the throws Schor made were anticipatory. He's developing a nice rapport with his receivers at this point. Of course, adding Kloosterman and Alls makes it that much better.
5. Defense is dominant. D-line continues to impress me. Most athletic group I've seen at JMU perhaps.
6. This team is so good it's wasted at the FCS level. Not sure how much competition JMU will face this year until the playoffs. We might not see this team score the points that they did a year ago, but the defense is far better and the team is better as a result.
Our 1st team D has given up 10 points thru 2 games so far.

Our offensive balance is what makes us so dangerous and it was on display last night. Stack the box to cut off our run and we beat you via the air. Drop the safeties back or put more guys out in zone coverage and we kill you with the run.

Good luck stopping the Dukes offense.
Yeah, we'll see about the run. I agree that ETSU sold out against the run - the fact that we were stuffed in the run, kept trying it (39 rushes), and *still* scored 52 amazes me. "OK, you'll take away the run, fine. How's 25 for 33 for 300 yards and 5 TD sound?"

This is a really good football team.
Defensive Game planning by opponent:

Ecu - "from last years tape, looks like a good qb, good rb's, all American LT. we gotta play the run and pass"

Etsu - " they ran for 422 yards on an fbs. They have new wr's. We need to stop the run and force them to throw"

Future opps - "s&@t. We're f($&@d"
*ETSU clearly sold out to stop the run, and i believe that will be the gameplan for nearly every team against us from here on out.
*Schor has now thrown a pick in 5 out of his last 6 games. just think about that for a minute. some of you get super sensitive about a lot of things, so i'll just leave that stat and you do what you want with it.
*energy in the crowd was very good.
*will be awesome to get Kloo back. he's such a phenomenal run blocker. that can't be overstated. that's beside the fact that i believe he's Schor's favorite target. Kloo AND Carlton in TE sets now? plus our plethora of other options? holy s**t is that a nightmare for defenses.
Isn't there another backup QB on the roster who they can put in for mop up minutes throughout the season while maintaining Johnson's red shirt? I'm guessing that if Schor stays healthy JMU will have a lot of games in the regular season where the games will be out of reach in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
A little of topic, but...

I'm surprised none of the Bourne bashers pointed out the CAA football logo on the field.

Yeah, that's where I am. I was hoping for some vein-popping outrage from hazed.

Yes. There has to be a guy who can come in and just take the center snap and hand off.
I figure Hunter Etheridge would be a good candidate for mop up duty. He holds for PAT/FG attemps.

The problem with that if Schor gets hurt you want Johnson to have some reps. I wouldn't worry too much about the redshirt year. Johnson will battle the Freshman hotshot QB next year. I just want to keep Schor healthy. He should not be in at the end of blowouts!

Why not Woods? He took a few snaps in the wildcat last season.

One thing that stood out to me is that ETSU tackled very well. There were several plays where it seemed like if we could break one tackle or make one man miss then we could bust it for a big gain.

How big would it be if you had an additional year of Schor? Would it have been worth him mopping up for another QB earlier in his career so he would of graduated last year?

He's down to three years now. I would hate to limit it to 2 years for mop up in meaningless play.

Yes that was part of the frustration of last night and why I feel that they really do have a solid defense. There was hardly any missed tackles by them last night. Their first defender pursued and brought us down, every time. We have no home run plays in terms of yardage, only modest ones at best.
Their defense was fast and disciplined. It's clear Torbush is a good defensive coach and has probably out recruited for a school like etsu.
NSU should have many more missed tackles and mistakes next week. If it's still a 52-10 game against them with 122 rushing yards, then yeah, reason for concern.
We CANNOT have schor still in that late and taking contact. That was hands down the most disappointing part of last night. What is MH doing?
