If our boys play mistake free and reasonably penalty free they can beat Nebraska. I like our team. The Huskers will be tough but they are not Alabama.
I've said with our defense, we should be in all 12 games we play.

BC-we are going to look back at that as a brutal loss. We were the better team and and they will be lucky to win 3 games.

EIU-Did what we needed to do. Given our track record with solid local FCS schools, that win is promising.

Nebraska and SDSU are going to be great tests for us. SDSU beat ASU last night. If we limit our mistakes and get a couple of plus plays on D and ST I think we will show well. I don't see us winning either of these 2 games, probably 10ish point dogs in both games, but the possibility is certainly there.

Our offense is not good enough to stay with the next two Nebraska or San Diego State. I don't think our running game is strong enough to set up the pass and vice versa. Balanced maybe, but just not at the level to play with the next two teams.

Now Santa is on film---and he's taking a big step up. I would expect some regression.

I am a strong supporter that we have a very solid defense, but I'm sure Nebraska's offensive line will be massive and even in a very, very, very good effort against BC, we did give up 23 points. We are going to have a tough time holding Nebraska nor San Diego State to that and it will be very difficult to score that many. I'm guessing we are strong double digit underdogs in both games and we need to come out healthy coming into conference play.
Nebraska and SDSU are far better programs than the last two opponents we played. I think we lose by 2+ TDs in both and I'd be surprised if we're in either game. We absolutely suck in San Diego. We have to watch out for SDSU's running back/kick returner, he has six career kickoff returns for TDs and our kicker can't kick to the endzones (or make FGs).
Carey will find a way for us to lose this game. I am highly confident.

We may get blown out in these games. While I really like our defense, it's yet to be really tested. It's a good unit. But most likely "MAC good". I was disappointed at the lack of QB pressures the defense could muster yesterday. And it's a speed type defense that needs a ball control offense to keep fresh legs. That offense is still finding an identity and rhythm.

This season is all about competing in the west. Hopefully this board doesn't go suicidal if we have a couple of bad next games. 2017 for me is all about two games: Toledo and WMU.
Hoping this year has shades of 2012 with a gut wrenching week 1 loss followed by a magical run. I know that's asking a lot but our D has the potential to be as good as any in recent Huskie history. No reason we aren't in both of these next two games*

* If Santa is actually #good
Nebraska and San Diego State are both beatable. Not super confident NIU will actually beat either of them, but if Santa plays well it can be done.

If we can manage possesion for 28+ minutes, I think we can hang around.
Would be nice to steal at least one of them. This team has some talent and unlike Milwaukee Pilot I think that there is every likelihood that Santa will continue to progress and improve rather than regress. He has not played that much but he has steadily improved as he has gotten more snaps in live game action.
I really like our defense this year. We finally have some big boys up front that anchor the line of scrimmage and our linebacker and DBs are as fast and physical than NIU team I can think of in recent memory. Obviously Nebraska and SDSU will be a bigger test than the first two games, but I don't think we get blown out. Not saying we are going to win but I don't see a blowout

looking ahead, i watched the ASU-SDSU game last night, and SDSU looks good, fast and this Rback Penney seems a step faster then anyone else on the field. I had thought we could sneak up on SDSU, but, I'm backing off that, it will be a rough game. And I know ASU lately is the football clown school of the PAC 12, but, i saw enuf to fear SDSU.
I would crap myself if we beat Nebraska! Dare to Dream!

Pretty cool to see the NIU/Nebraska promo during the Bears game today.

If they only beat ASU by 10, I can't rule out the Huskies, even with the limitations at coaching Carey gives the Huskies. ASU is a miserable miserable program right now, if they can hang, so can NIU
Les Miles is scheduled to make his Fox Sports booth debut in WK 3 (Sept 16). He will work NIU/Nebraska w/Brando, Tillman & Sonders on FS1.

Nebraska starting RB might not be available for the game after something happened to his knee in the 4th quarter. That would be huge for us.
NIU has an outside shot at beating Nebraska this year. It is not likely that it will happen, however it is clearly possible.

Agree, this game is one NIU can win. Id guess Nebraska starts out as 15 point favorites but I like NIU to at least be a very very good bet to keep it under that. I hope NIU does not go into its typical ultra conservative shell offensively to start the game, if NIU has any shot in this game they are going to have to open it up offensively. Nebraska's weakness is defense, exploit it.

It's also possible that I will lose 50 pounds, get a full head of wavy hair, and have a bevy of young beautiful ladies bow at my feet and beg me for loving. Not likely to happen, however it is clearly possible.
