I still marvel at the strategy employed by Tubby of keeping his lightly productive son on the recruiting road while grounding an ace recruiter on campus.

Despite the negativity of the OP, another really good article by Mark Giannotto. Also a 3 minute, 30 second interview with Tubby.

Glad to have Coach Pierre, he seems to respect Tubby and is glad to be here. Has one kid as Arkansas State, another coaching at Middle TN.

"And yet Pierre chose to come here, despite the advice of colleagues who told him to accept one of the offers he had to continue on as an assistant coach elsewhere. He had known Smith for years and once the two sat down and discussed the position, Pierre felt this “was a special situation. All he had to say was come.”
Definitely a big upgrade over Keelon Lawson. Solid article by Mark.
I still don't get the reasoning for having him sit on campus. Can't we move Saul in to that position and have Coach Butch out recruiting?
I think I heard him say he was real impressed they were able to get 19 wins last season....

welp.. I dunno what to say, except at least we know where he stands on that score.
"Smith recently confided that the locker room turmoil and post-season exodus 'he went through last year, he’s never been through.'”

Wonder why he's never had that kind of locker room turmoil in 44 years of coaching. Wonder if he'll ever have it again. If he doesn't, wonder if BooHoo and his pals will ever be able to figure out why it happened this time. Just some random thoughts on a Friday afternoon.

In the end, Josh sold his soul to try to keep winning. Anything but hiring a decent X's and O's guy to help him out. The devil in this case was Keelon Lawson, and his two imps KJ and Dedric.
Over time, Josh had allowed poisonous behaviors/personalities that you absolutely don't want around your basketball program. People with attitudes of entitlement.
Remember when Smith first introduced himself to the players who were sitting on the couch...and not one of them stood up to welcome their new coach?
Smith had to exorcise those demons before this team could move forward.

Amazing your fixation on Saul Smith. This article had no mention of Saul - but like most other topics on this forum, your obsessive preoccupation with him prevents any objectivity in an otherwise informative article about the Tiger MBB program.

And the irony of your emoji is fitting.......if you'd only realize the Saul issue is a deadhorse.

The main reason, I think, is nepotism. I have heard no good defense of having Saul on the staff when other, better options are available.

No, the irony is your continued obsession with my posts when ignoring them is a viable alternative.

because Tubby isn't the problem...the problem is with Memphis basketball itself.

he'll get it fixed, though. If anyone can do it...Tubby Smith can.

Looks like you have taken up the current PC banner that wishes to make pronouncements without challenge - and on a forum no less. And then be willing to silence the opposition with clubs if required, if only figuratively speaking. But understand, this is not your safe space where you will go unchallenged.

As confused as ever. You don't see anything abnormal with having a great recruiter handcuffed to an office while useless Saul is on the road, and then say that he can't be objective?

Hilarious.

Saul > Pierre or Saul = Pierre apparently.

There's a lot of coaches that could sort this crap out better and faster than Tubby but they already have jobs elsewhere.

He's what we've got and I hope he is successful because basketball season is a lot more fun when the Tigers are nationally relevant.

I'm not holding my breath.

Good lord man. Pick a side and repeat your argument ad infinitum. Above all else, don't listen to the other side, and stop it with the rational thoughts. It ain't rocket science.
