HuskieBob posted in the Diesel Memorial thread but I wanted to be sure no one missed seeing it so I'm putting this in with our main threads.

NIU asked us to change our original dedication date of the Diesel Memorial sculpture & we have all agreed on Oct. 26, 2017 before the EMU game. Before anyone mentions that it is a weeknight etc. etc. please know that we needed a date that the entire committee as well as our artist, Renee Bemis, and other NIU dignitaries could all attend. 10/26/17 was the date that worked.
The committee is made up of 4 people plus our artist and we are pretty spread out with HuskieBob in Florida & me a couple hours away. Logistics sometimes were tricky to get this memorial completed but with the dedication of everyone it is happening!

I re-read the original Diesel Memorial thread and the very first post of the thread from NIU Drew pretty much started this whole thing. NIU Drew has not posted or been active on the board since 9/26/2015. I don't know where he is or if he will see this but I want to convey my heartfelt thanks to him for his genuine caring he showed with his post. It is the spirit of the Diesel Memorial & the inspiration that got this ball rolling ...soon to be a reality.

NIU Drew posted 9/15/15 "I was really sad to hear the news about Diesel. He brought a lot of joy to fans at the stadium and watching on TV. It seems like every game broadcast, both local and national, the crew commented on the beautiful dog named Diesel. He was there for almost all of NIU’s rise to prominence as a mid-major power, and absolutely deserves a spot in the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame. He was the one constant during those years which saw various coaches, athletic directors, and players cycle through the program. He even provided the most shared NIU sports moment in history with his signature high five.

Some have mentioned a statue. I don’t know the feasibility in terms of donors, but I would love to see a statue of Diesel in front of the West side where everyone walks by -- one that is low to the ground in his signature high five pose. Kids would be high-fiving him back and having photo opportunities every Saturday for years.

We will miss you, buddy. I hope you are rollin in the snow somewhere on the other side.
"

Here too is the list of people who pledged a donation. Thanks to all of you for your generosity! If you pledged & forgot you did, we sure could use your donation as we are still fund raising. As always, please tell your NIU friends & family about the project. It has taken some time but we are almost there! Go Huskies!

Really great work by everyone who has been leading the project.

It's been driven by the kind of warmth and joy that Huskie life has lacked the last couple years.
HFA - you beat me to it. I was going to post a thread reminding everyone that every little bit helps.

If you want to be a part of the Huskie spirit -- and have something tangible that will live forever that you can point to and say, "I helped make that happen," this is your chance.

The sculpture is beautiful, and is just the right size for your son or daughter or grandson or granddaughter to "high five" on his/her way into Huskie stadium, just like Diesel did.

So, what do you say? Can you chip in $15 today?

I chipped in today. Pat Schiller did a few days ago. John Ivanic, Bob and Carol Smith, Milam Audio, many others citing that they are our MAC Brethren. If they can, you can. So, let's see this through to the finish. Thanks to all that have donated, and to those about to. Momentum baby!

I donated twice on the website approximately 120 days apart. I believe I just used my full name, not my user name on the Dog Pound.

Thank you for your generosity. Those of us on the committee have also donated a couple times. I know a few of the folks on here by their "real" names but there are many I don't know. We appreciate every single one of you & chihuskie is right...when you see the sculpture you can be proud to say you were a part of making it happen! :-)

Thank YOU - for your donation & your support. :-) Thanks to ALL of you on this list - and those not on the list - for your donations & your support.
Kudos to the entire committee for your dedication and hard work! I just wish the dedication was before Homecoming so more people could be there. But, I understand why it's not with lots of activities taking place at Homecoming. Maybe the dedication could be on ESPN3.

Wow, I can't believe this all has gone thru. It seems like ages ago this whole idea started. I may have to find a way to make that Diesel TShirt. :)
Can't wait to see it. Solid work by everyone!!

Just awesome words by NIUDrew. You provided the inspiration for the project.

The only thing I can add is to his sentence about kids high-fiving the Diesel sculpture on Saturdays is:

And Tuesdays.
And Wednesdays.
And Thursdays.
And Fridays.
