o

Would love for them to find a spot for Mike Jones. Gave a lot of years to the UAB athletic program.
I spent about twenty minutes yesterday trying to remember Deanna Jacksons name yesterday. Glad they picked her
I had never hear of Daniel Gaitan, but holy crap:

Quote:In just two full seasons from 1979-1980, Daniel Gaitan holds multiple school records, which includes: career goals (57), career points (133- 57 goals, 19 assists), single season goals (35), single season assists (14), and points in a season (84).

Not surprisingly, his single season goals per game average (1.32) and single season points per game average (3.09) are also the best of any Blazer. Another of Gaitan's noteworthy accomplishments is his place at the top of the record books for most goals scored in a single game, a feat he achieved when he knocked in seven during a contest against Valdosta State. Additionally, he holds the other top three spots in the aforementioned category, recording five goals in a game on three separate occasions.

"When I learned that I was selected to be inducted into the UAB Hall of Fame, I was incredibly humbled and truly honored," Gaitan stated. "Soccer is a passion of mine and I worked very hard to be the best athlete that I could be. Playing soccer for UAB was one of the greatest privileges and accomplishments during my soccer career. I am most appreciative for this recognition."

We need to get Gary Sanders in to the UAB Hall of Fame and then the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. I have been pushing this but it falls on deaf ears.
Still have 3 more to announce, I wouldn't at all be surprised if Gary gets in.
Hope so. Hard to push him for AHOF when not in our own.
I would say Gary Sanders and Hector Valenuva (sp?) should be in this group,
Not over Chris Hammond.

If you've got a banner hanging in the rafters of Bartow, you should be a lock for the UABHOF. No brainer. Hopefully, he is announced soon.
I had never heard of the soccer player, but defer to the selection committee's choice.
I would think those near the top would include Sanders, Hilyer, Mincy, Roddy, & Hammond.
I'd throw in Mike Anderson as the next basketball coach.
Millings left due to a real sour note so I would be surprised at that choice.

It's Villanueva. And I would agree, he would probably be the first baseball player based on what he did at UAB, but based on post-UAB career, it would probably be Chris Hammond.
Does anyone know if the criteria is based on what they did at UAB, post-UAB or both. I would hope it would be based on UAB accomplishments.

As a continuation of this week's UAB Hall of Fame inductee reveal, two former Blazers have been announced as members of the Hall of Fame class of 2017 - men's basketball standout Jerome Mincy and decorated women's tennis star Mirela Vladulescu Booker.
Roddy White is last inductee.
It's a shame Gary Sanders wasn't selected. He shouldn't have to wait another four years. Roddy could have waited since he just retired.
