I don't recall hearing about this one, but it is showing up on this future schedule website for 2022 and 2023. Maybe I wasn't the only one who missed it when it was announced.

I'm not counting the FCS teams. I know UTSA has been in CUSA a few years now, but I see that name and think FCS, lol...but San Antonio puts out good talent so I get us wanting to recruit there.
I do not agree with a rigid schedule formula. We should strive for P5 home and home even when it means playing two P-5's in one year.

that's easy to say...but when they get 33 million per year and you get 2 million per year...well, you can't be above the occasional buy-game.

Mississippi, UCLA, Mizzou, Miss State, Duke, Kansas...the last few year along with the next few years have seen and will see a broad range of P5 teams come through the Liberty Bowl.

Agree 100%. Compare our schedule now to the schedule we played in the 80s or 90s - it's nowhere near as compelling.

The P5s are out there to be scheduled. The PAC 12 and Big 10 have either completely eliminated or restricted the scheduling of FBS teams, which opens up schedule slots for teams like Memphis. Especially with Memphis being easy to get to and good recruiting turf.

Last, it's not like the AAC schedule is that punishing, like say the SEC West, that we couldn't schedule two P5s every year, so that we have a decent home non-conference game every year.

Next September we get Mercer, Georgia State and South Alabama at home. Excited about that?

it's not the 80s or 90s anymore...moreover, Memphis football in the 80s and 90s was nowhere near as compelling as today.

why mess with a good thing?

Yes, I like watching Memphis football win games...I'm heading down to Ga State this season.

I'm very Pastner on football...I hug the wins because I've sat through WAY too many 1-11 and 2-10 type seasons to start complaining about cupcakes.
I loved the Stobart years. 6 & 5 but we were good, and we played a much tougher and more interesting schedule.

Here's the '94 schedule, promise it's the first one I pulled up. Would you rather play this schedule, or any schedule we have for the next 7 years? Thank God we have the AAC now, which at least makes the conference games more interesting.

Sep 3, 1994 Sat Memphis Mississippi State
Sep 10, 1994 Sat Memphis @ Tulsa Ind
Sep 17, 1994 Sat Memphis @ Southern Mississippi
Sep 24, 1994 Sat Memphis Arkansas SEC
Oct 8, 1994 Sat Memphis Tulane
Oct 15, 1994 Sat Memphis Arkansas State
Oct 22, 1994 Sat Memphis Cincinnati Ind
Oct 29, 1994 Sat Memphis @ Louisville Ind
Nov 5, 1994 Sat Memphis @ Ole Miss SEC
Nov 12, 1994 Sat Memphis @ Tennessee SEC
Nov 19, 1994 Sat Memphis East Carolina

My point is, Memphis could provide a better schedule for its fans. It's a choice not to do so. Many G5's have better schedules than we do.
please, Memphis has home games with UCLA, Ole Miss, Mizzou, and Miss State coming up.

I guess some of the local yokels miss the losing seasons and the 'up the middle in a cloud of dust' offense just because we played them thar' SEC teams more.

don't mess with a good thing.

Couldn't disagree more. 4 good home non-conference games in the next 7 years is not good enough.

We are good. We can compete and beat these teams, which would help our program much more than empty, probably low-attended wins against Mercer, Georgia State and South Alabama. Would any of these be exciting games to bring recruits to? Are our current players pumped up to play these 3 teams in one month?

Schedule one buy home game per year against the Mercers of the world. After that, schedule as good a team as we can. There's a reason East Carolina has averaged 40K+ for years.
I would like to see us schedule UAB or Southern rather than Arky State.

I love how you fail to mention that season will feature 7 home games instead of the normal 6...I'm excited for more Tiger football and more wins even if you aren't.

Would much rather have any of those 3 than Mercer, So Ala and Ga State.

Arky State is a decent local rivalry. And they bring a few thousands fans with them, which is a few thousand more than the 3 OOC home games we have scheduled next September.
It's going to be harder and harder to get home and homes with P5 schools.
UTSA will be a fun experience plus the great Mexican food down on the river. Muy bien Muchacho's
Hey, another game that I can go to.
Yay!
For your consideration. We have those who CLAIM we play Ga St, USA in order to get exposure in Atlanta and Mobile. So you ever wonder why it is that the P5 teams offer us home and home??????

So THEY can get more exposure in Memphis.

At least UNT actually has some sort of football tradition compared to the no name schools we are offering home and home series. Even though we already have the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex covered with our games with SMU

Also if we are playing these home and home with lesser schools in order to get exposure in these communities. Why have we swapped the largest metro area in Alabama for the third largest. When we actually had a rivalry game going with the school in the largest area. UAB was actually back playing football when we were negotiating with USA.
