Quote:Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and Florida St. Jimbo Fisher have each been outspoken on the strength of the ACC the last few seasons, but Swinney took it a step further Monday when he said he knew his team could beat Ohio St. after watching tape of the Big 10 in preparation for Clemson's Fiesta Bowl date with the Ohio St. Buckeyes.

Quote:Swinney added to his comments Monday. During an interview with Walt Deptula on WCCP-FM, Swinney said the ACC's strength of schedule has been a big part of Clemson's success. He added that he knew Ohio St. was in trouble when he watched the Buckeyes' game film.

"That's another reason why we've been so successful. Nobody wants to talk about that. Go back to last year. We're (college football) trying to figure out a way to get four Big Ten teams into the Playoff," Swinney told Deptula. "And let me tell you, if they could have figured it out they would have done it. And I didn't pay any attention to the Big Ten. You just kind of buy it, right? That is just what is out there. And we get ready to play Ohio St., and I am watching film, and I watch every single game. And when I was done I go into my team and I say, 'Boys, these guys are in trouble. I've watched the whole league and I've watched both sides of the league, and these guys are in trouble.' And that's what happened. That's a credit to our league. That's why myself and Jimbo and some of these other coaches are quick to point it out."
Swinney is not going to make any friends saying what needs to be said. Thankfully he hasn't adopted the coach speak so many of his colleagues give us. Nice to know he sees they same thing in The Big Ten that
most SEC and ACC fans see.
CJ
Penn St gives them a tough game. No way to argue against that.

The thing that should disgust the SEC and ACC is that it is ESPN that pushes for getting a Big 10 team in every year and most years they have deserved one. Last year they deserved one as well, but Penn State doesn't draw as well nationally in the wake of their scandal as the Buckeyes do. The first year of the CFP T.C.U. and Baylor got hosed because neither would have a national audience and they legitimately had scheduling issues, but Ohio State got in and made the most of it. But make no mistake it is the network that wants that Northern Midwest audience and their alums in the Northeast and in fairness the want the SEC crowd as well. But it is ESPN that pushes for the Big 10 inclusion.

Like I said, no way to argue against that. The Pitt game certainly isn't a valid argument.
Q: How many times did Dabo have to watch the videos before he realized it wasn't in slow motion?

Clemson blows Penn State out by 40+.
He was right, but I think that message should have stayed with his players and not for public consumption.

I guess that I am old school, but think that stuff is better off being kept internal, not for the press to publish, especially long after the fact.

LOL. I watched the Rose Bowl live and after our discussion the other day I watched the rtsportsuploads condensed version where they show only the live action. It would have been a bloodbath.

A Penn State defense that gave up 413 yards to a mediocre Ohio State offense stood no chance against our offense. With as soft as their secondary was over the middle Jordan Leggett and Hunter Renfrow would have had career days. USC drove to win And our "basketball players on grass" on the DL would have put McSorley out of the game in the second quarter. We had a 315 lb DT, Christian Wilkins (former basketball player), playing DE and he blew by the Ohio State tackles like they were standing still. They ended up adjusting the protection to his side of the ball and Clelin Farrell goes from relatively unknown rsfreshman to Fiesta Bowl defensive MVP and being ranked as the #8 DE prospect on the CBS Sports 2018 NFL draft prospectus.

The only people in the world delusional enough to think that Penn State would have played Clemson tight are Penn State fans and a Big Slow homer like you.
It's fine for you to pretend that a couple stats prove something. You'll continue to do that.

And you'll continue to be wrong. You have proven nothing.

PS ... +3 on mentioning the youtube channel for the 30min games! Have been wanting something like that. Granted, no Gophs ... but still.
Penn State gave up 432 yards to Pitt, 515 to Michigan, 469 to Minnesota, 413 to Ohio State, 454 to Indiana, 415 to Wisconsin, and 575 to USC....I don't envision Clemson having major problems moving the football on Penn State.

Ohio State was probably the best defense McSorley saw last year...in that game he was 8-23 with 1 TD and 0 INTs. With that being said, McSorley was pretty hot at the end of the year until he tossed up 3 INTs to USC.
You don't get points for moving the ball. Nothing proven yet

I've made a far better case than you have.

Clemson had the better ranked offense and defense despite playing a far tougher schedule, all per the NCAA stats.

Now make your case. How could Penn State do what Ohio State couldn't and keep the game close?

Of course you're going to pretend that you have, you're a Clemson fan.

Stats and rankings literally don't mean anything. Every game is a separate season. That's how rivals can play close games even though one of the teams has had a terrible season and the other is undefeated.

Ohio State was better than Penn State in 2016 but lost to PSU on a blocked FG attempt returned 60 yards for a TD in the final 5 minutes.
Wait the league with the biggest flagships from the historical metro areas (Midwest and east) has media bias pushing for it?
(Sarcasm)

Well yeah so if every game is a separate season and stats and rankings literally don't mean anything then we all just have opinions. Thus you can say it would be a close game and someone else could say that Clemson would blow them out and another could say that Penn State would blow Clemson out and we are all entitled to that opinion.
