Always a decent place. Went there for a couple drinks and food a few weeks ago and was closed.

Seemingly did well and sure was a lot better than El Porton down the street.
oh wow. We haven't been there in forever because we started going to El Toro Loco because it was way better, but now they're under new management & have kind of gone downhill, too.

El Porton is the WORST out of all the "mexican-ish" restaurants now, IMO.

Damn. I was just there in March or April.
Agavos on Walnut Grove.

Who has been to Las Margaritas or the other new Mexican place next to the Peabody?

I highly recommend going there on "Taco Tuesday" - $1.99 tacos, & they're great.
We went when they did a burrito special on Wednesday, and it was just okay.

Their margaritas are head & shoulders above the usual suspects, though, with the exception of Las Delicias. Good happy hour prices, too.

Thanks! I just went to El Porton last night. My daughter's choice, not mine. But to my surprise, their handmade-at-the-table guacamole was the best I have had lately. BF said the same thing. And their margarita was quite tasty, too.
Taqueria la Guadalupana, 4818 Summer Ave, Memphis

The last few times I've been there Guadalapana has been awful. If I want more of a "real deal" Mexican experience, for my money it's Picosos at Summer & Graham. That place is SO GOOD. The smoked chicken is the best deal in town, and you'll want to buy the 3 salsas to take home with you.

Taco truck at Summer & Perkins and Los Picosos. Both are great and relatively cheap. Only problem with the taco truck is the occasional down and out person trying to bum some change. If you get tacos be sure to ask for extra cilantro.
Awwwwww man. Used to love to order from the Cuban menu in the fall. Their Cuban tamales were the best.

There's probably 5 or 6 better Mexican places than Gaudalupana on Summer avenue alone at this point. I'd rather get Tacos from either of the trucks (the one on Perkins or Los Jorochos at Mendenhall).
Elenas Taco shop on Summer (opening a new one by Wolfchase) and El Idolo (where Pig N Whistle used to be) in Bartlett are my 2 favorite places right now.
The taco truck that is always at Poplar & Highland (beside the Exxon, before you can drive through the lot to Buster's) is great, too.

Noted. I visit buster's almost every weekend.

I'll have to try Los Jorochos ..... looks really good.

Owner is going to reopen it with more of a "Las Tortugas" feel.

So by that, you mean rude counter service, no alcohol & incredibly overpriced food?

Las Tortugas is good food - their scallop torta is amazing, but their prices are ridiculous for some of the plainer things, esp. with all the real deal tortas up & down Summer.

Theres a little paleteria (like a tiny, tiny version of La Michoacana) attached that sells elote, mexican soft drinks and all the other paleteria stuff.
.....and now we know what's going in Los Compadres' spot:
