Some interesting takes in here. I don't know about everyone else but the ones about the Terps seem pretty accurate. I like them, both the good and the bad.
Sadly accurate. I thought we (Rutgers) had built something pretty solid under Schiano, but frugality and lack of commitment by the school really blew that up.
I like what Durkin has accomplished, especially with regards to recruiting the DMV and "757" areas. It makes me wonder whether Debbie Yow pulled the trigger on Ron Vanderlinden prematurely.

Durkin and staff have done an amazing job. Although Mike London wasn't here long he helped break back into Virginia and whoever is on the 757 is doing great. Feels like the Terps had been locked out of there for a while.

My favorite comment was about Maryland scheduling Texas. Had a good laugh. I think that was scheduled in 2010 or so. The change to the B1G wasn't anticipated at that time.
I really liked the article and it was a good read to get the lowdown on the rest of the conference.

"You talk about other programs in the league who don’t recruit elite talent but are fundamentally sound, Wisconsin is the best of those by far.”

That pretty much is a perfect description of Wisconsin. It's hard to find a program that does more with less. They're never going to get the number of 4 & 5 star recruits like a tOSU but they always manage to be in the picture for a championship.

I'm surprised more schools don't try and build a program in the Wisconsin model.

It just shows how how 2-3 years of mismanagement can set you back by over a decade.

If Temple can recover from 2 years under Steve Addazio, who is presently digging a even deeper hole at Boston College, than Rutgers can certainly turn it around. The question is does Chris Ash have the persona to persuade in state talent to commit to Rutgers? Schiano could sell ice to Eskimos. Personally, I thought Rutgers should have hired another NJ guy like Al Golden.
With the level of football talent in New Jersey plus the fact that Rutgers is the only FBS university in the state along with no other Power 5 football playing universities in the Greater NYC metro gives Rutgers a leg up over most programs. A quality leader should be able to turn Rutgers into a conference title contender for the long haul

We've been thinking that here in NJ since the early 70s when the school administration walked away from the basically 1AA schedule we'd been playing since the 1930s.

O'Brien and Franklin rebuilding Penn State as quickly as they did works against us; and honestly people in NJ aren't as attached to Rutgers as they are to the local pro teams (and we're competing against 3 of them.) That works against us. It's not an impossible task but makes it harder.

I'll be happy if we're competitive this year in the Illinois -- Indiana -- Purdue and Maryland games.
