Liberty announced today the Flames are extending their contracts with the Monarchs and Hokies. ODU will be playing the Flames three times over a 5-year period from 2018-2022 including twice in Lynchburg.

We are obviously jazzed about scoring a pair of Virginia tech home dates at Williams Stadium. But having you guys come to our place twice in the coming years will be marquee dates for us in 2018 & 2021.

How many OOC games do ACC teams usually schedule? Looks like Tech has both ODU and LU on their schedule for the foreseeable future, which means they must think pretty highly of each school. Will they stop playing FCS teams now? Curious.
Liberty signed a 2 for 4 with VT? Why?
our 2 there 1 here should be really judges as a H-A with a buy-out game as a bonus

The independent life is hard unless you are Notre Dame, possibly BYU?
As I have stated before, I am personally not a fan of this move.

Totally. Even worse, that can easily turn into a 4-1 with a small buyout.

VT now has all of their non conference games scheduled through 2030. Have FCS teams scheduled only in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2026 so probably phasing them out.

I think their original deal was 1 for 3.

VT probably thinks ODU and Liberty is the same as an FCS team in terms of actually being competitive against them.

Really hoping ODU can hang with them :)

Lots of VT alum in Hampton Roads too. Might be trying to keep that base engaged with their school by reaching out to this market.
Do you think the lack of VT dates in Norfolk is a stadium or revenue issue for ODU? I personally think it is awesome to have guarantee games every season that your fans will embrace and that are within driving distance. This is why I'd love to see us scheduling regular games well beyond 2022. Of course I'd much rather we be in the same conference together by then.

As for why we would do 4-for-2 deals with Virginia Tech, we need marquee home dates on the schedule to sell to ticketholders and recruits. Our schedules through 2021 are basically finished so we are not in the position of desperation that we were earlier this year when we made the move up to FBS Indy. But ACC schools are special circumstances. Anytime we can get VT, UVa, Syracuse or Wake Forest in our crib it makes it worth the roadies.

What are you talking about? We have a 13 game series, with 6 of the 13 in Norfolk. That's a 6 for 7 contract. The extension signed today is all equal, 3 for 3.
The graphic that I had seen was all in Blacksburg. Total mistake on my part. Congrats!
Yes, it is a little weird that we they can say ODU @ VT but then the opposite is ODU v VT. Lol.

Considering how many kids from the 757 go to LU it should be fun.
We would seem to be poised to build natural rivalries with you all. I'm anxious for this to get rolling. Although I admit I'm still stinging from our 4th quarter collapse in our first ever meeting in Foreman. Ugh.

It's really a 2 for 3. The first game in the series was already scheduled.
UVA and VA TECH already square off on rivalry weekend, to bad these ODU - Liberty match ups can't fall on the same weekend.
So, according to Harry Minium, Liberty offered to buy their way into CUSA for $24 million and were told no.

Good decision by the C-USA administration.
