This is a blockbuster announcement particularly for the locals ...

This AD is more than earning his keep!
Great news!
Yes this is outstanding. I'm glad Va Tech is so close to us. I know that helps us with scheduling them. Hope it works the same way with UVa in the future.

I believe if we have a good showing against these teams with a great gameday atmosphere, that will open up the opportunities to pull in some other bigger name teams.

So very thankful to see how things are going so far. God is good.

Now, lets get that stadium expansion going. We need to be able to fit all those Va. Tech fans in!
(How many of our fans at games each week are really Hokie and Cavalier fans and may cheer for them first?)
Comibing this news with the Hokies signing a home-and-home with BYU and announcing a 10-game extension of home-and-homes with ODU and VT's non-conference schedule is now closed through 2030.
Now we need to expand Williams! Ready go!

I think y'all will have the stadium over 30k by the time VT comes to town.
This is excellent news! I wasn't expecting this. I wish it was home/home like ODU but it is a 2/3 deal as the first away game was already scheduled.

Now if we can further our series with ODU then we can lock down exposure in the whole state. Poor UVA is probably feeling left out. Hopefully we win a couple and build a rivalry with any of them.
Nice to see future schedules filling out.

I just ran into a VT Alum in our forensics lab and he was all excited about LU and VT playing. Even commented on how he thinks LU is a great school. Apparently his wife is starting her Masters at LU and LU has a work program where you work on campus and tuition is free or heavily reduced or something. Just nice to run into real people that don't have misconceptions about LU.
Seems like Harry Minium, in today's online of The Virginia Pilot, praises the VT h/h with LU and ODU, and even gives JMU fans some reason for future hope.

Hadn't seen these numbers reported yet, so it looks like LU will net 1M on the deal.

Quote:It doesn't make as much sense for Tech to play Liberty as it does to play ODU, because Lynchburg is not a recruiting hotbed. But Tech used the two games at Liberty as leverage to negotiate modest payouts of $500,000 to the Flames each for the three games the teams will play in Blacksburg, Babcock told David Teel of the Daily Press. That's about half of what Power 5 schools typically pay to draw an FBS mid-major school.

And Liberty will pay Tech $250,000 each time the Hokies come to Lynchburg.

Those numbers for LU will only climb as the Flames become credible as a FBS team. They won't decline, only increase in time.
Liberty and Virginia schedule second three-game football series.

"Liberty now has 16 future football games scheduled against teams in the state of Virginia. Here is the breakdown: Virginia (6), Virginia Tech (6), Old Dominion (3), Norfolk State (1)."
