Gilbert was apparently telling people today at a McComb event to expect a "major announcement" regarding football scheduling in a few days.

Anyone wanna take a guess at the opponent? My hunch is that they're bringing back the Black and Blue Bowl.
I really don't care about playing Memphis unless it's for a conference game again.

I think most of us would like to play Memphis in a conference game (yes, the last 4-5 years of crap-usa can actually make you miss memphis, houston, ecu, etc.). But I'd also much rather a home and home with Memphis, than with ULM, Troy and App St. And if Memphis somehow helps keep the Austin Peays, Texas States and Savannah States from coming to the Rock, then all the better.
Some folks think small. Memphis would be a great addition to our schedule. Close, old rival, and in a much better conference than what we are..........Play hard.

The FCS buy games aren't going anywhere. Easy way for us to get to 6 home games and these next couple years we're playing teams that will travel well. Southern, JSU, and Alcorn.
MEM, ECU, Tulane.....would be wins for all schools.....

Agree 1000%
My money is on a home-and-home with Grambling.....or maybe Alabama State.
Look for a 2for1 game. Should be big time opponent.

Hmmm. He said it's going to be renewing an old regional rivalry. Florida State wouldn't come to Hattiesburg, would they?

Possibly Ole Miss or State but feel like there would be some leak if that was the case.

"Gosh almighty Josey." this would be great to be able to play more P6 schools.

My guess is it'll be Tulane again for h/h's... Overpromise and under-deliver... I'd be thrilled if it were Memphis on a regular basis though.
My guess is Va Tech in some way. Gilbert worked extensively with them in setting up the game vs. Tenn at Bristol Motor Speedway last year.

That's a good guess. They have some G5 road games on their future schedule, so they've shown they'll go on the road to play the "have-nots". They have road games scheduled at ODU and ECU, and I think they played Marshall on the road recently as well.

Could TCU be an option in a 2-1 deal? Louisville?

284 miles from your location.....297 from mine....

me and lil bubba made that full trek in 7.8 hrs back when the limit was 55 mph....

I like the idea of "meeting in the middle"....

Tulane game has already been announced a while back: (from 4/13/17 Hattiesburg American)

The Golden Eagles and Green Wave will play on Sept. 12, 2022 at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans. They will square off again on Sept. 16, 2023, at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg

yep....we need all three I previously mentioned in some form of h/h basis over every 6 yr period.....

that gives us the opportunity for a buy game series with a brand from the SEC and a swac home game.....

when I simply view from USD goggles, that's my best suggestion....

now when moo-who and bears get their pink slip down the row-add (that's "road" for the dense), I'll revisit that position.....
A home and home with any P5 school would be great. I'd like to see a home and home game w/ some G5 teams too...ECU, UCF, Fresno State, Cincy, San Diego State, Wyoming, Ohio...

I forgot about that one.. unless this extends the series other than just those two years.

So if we figure this is going to be a new matchup (which points us back toward Memphis... I'd love to say Louisville or ECU, but that doesn't fit in the "regional" part of the statement.
