What many Americans did not realize was that on 12/8/1941 Congress declared war ONLY on Japan - not on its Axis ally Germany. Days later, Hitler, in support of Japan, declared war on the USA so Congress reciprocated at that time. One can only wonder how the war might have been fought if Hitler had not acted. The USSR, who we helped fight Germany, did not declare war on Japan until August 9th, 1945 the same day we dropped the A-Bomb on Nagasaki.

Before it was stolen, West End HS library had a copy of that 12/8/41 News and on page 2 was an ad for the Rexall Drug store at 1st Ave and 20th Street North which offered a breakfast special of 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, grits, biscuit and coffee for 15 cents.
