Tyner listed on top of the QB chart, FWIW
Interesting tidbits:

- Schantz and Womac are playing the hybrid DE/LB position of the 3-4 defense, Womac listed as the starter.

- Preston Gordon listed as a starting DE (he's a DT in a 4-3) but a bit surprised Padgett is behind Roe Wilkins at the other end.

- Abercrumbia and Thompson are the DT's, and glad to see both are now at 300lb (300/310).

- Anybody know what happened to Justin Bickham? Not sure if he's recovered from his injury, not listed in depth chart.

- The offensive live has size and experience, and I especially like the side that has Martin at C, Godber at guard and Anderson at tackle.

- The WR's are huge. Of the 7 listed, only one is under 6'2. A couple of intriguing redshirt freshmen are included.

- Trevor Long is now the back up TE. Former WR, don't recall when he switched to TE, but listed at 6'5 240.

- Graduate DJ Green is starter at Mike (middle) linebacker, with Ellerbee at the MO spot - not sure if there is a big difference between these two designation.

QB and secondary remain the biggest biggest concerns.

I wonder if we buried this statement in a time capsule and unearthed it every August if it would cease to not be true at some point...
Defensive personnel seems to be an easy transition from the 4-2-5 to the 3-4.
Very impressive that Dylan Silcox is in the two deep at SAM as a RS Freshman. Also, have to be impressed with Uzoma Akenbu.
I am intrigued to see how Aaron Cephus and Jordan Myers play as RS Freshmen.

Justin Bickham is still on the roster by the way.
We have some big 'ol boys on our OL.
Hope that translates to better pass protection this season.

Or two 1,000+ rushers...

Don't forget staying healthy. I know kinder has already given the humorous blessing, but staying healthy seems to be right up there, too. There's always 2 (or 10) injuries each year that make the team weaker. It's always brought up once the games start - if only...
Gary Kubiak was at practice yesterday.

Does he have any eligibility left?

I hope so. He would probably see significant playing time for us.

Unfortunately for the Owls, he got another offer this week and will be working for the Broncos. We were so close.
swcroundup compared Rice's roster to last season and noted some changes.

A number of guys on the 2-deep have lost weight: Dill (-20), Green (-15), Schantz (-10), Wells (-10). Perhaps more focus on quickness and speed? Change in how our strength & conditioning guys work? I think Green and Schantz moved from DE to LB in the new scheme.

Nashon Ellerbe is back to RB (from WR last year). Perhaps a reflection of depth with graduations?

DT Carl Thompson gained 30 lbs.

However, he seems incorrect about Jorian Clark, who is listed as a CB on both the roster and 2-deep (link says he was moved to safety).
The new chron.com reporter, Glynn Hill, tweeted that CB D'Angelo Ellis is expected to miss the season with a broken wrist. He may be able to return in the 2nd half of the season, but sounds like they expect him to red-shirt.

Interestingly, he also tweeted that Justin Bickham will replace Ellis as starter. Bickham wasn't even on the initial depth chart posted at the top of the thread.

Ugh. Lack of depth at our weakest positions strikes again. I'd guess Bickham was recovering and supposed to be the starter with Ellis backing him up and it just wasn't reflected on the first 2 deep.
Rice has posted an updated depth chart heading into the 9/9/17 UTEP game. Changes that I notice:
TE - Jordan Myers moves from WR to TE and replaces Trevor Long as the #2 TE
RG - Corey Klinger is off the depth chart (injured?). Kenneth Thompson moves to #1 and Cole Elms appears as #2.
WR - Aston Walter takes over as #1 for one of the spots, bumping Parker Smith to #2.
D-line - Parker Hanusa replaces Miles Adams as the #2 right DE.
LB - Nick Uretsky replaces Uzoma Akunebu as the #2 MIKE. Anthony Ekpe takes Uretsky's old spot as the #2 MO.
Kicker - Jack Fox now listed as #1 place kicker above Tobola and Harrison.
Rice's UH depth chart is out. However, unlike past years that differentiated most of the depth charts with the date the depth chart was posted as part of the URL, this year every depth chart has the same link, making it harder to compare to past depth charts (they replace each other). As far as I can tell, here are the differences:
RB - Austin Walter off (injured)
LDE - Padgett has become #1, Wilkins bumped to #2
NT - Carl Thompson not on depth chart, replaced by Myles Adams at #2
CB - as noted in other threads, VJ Banks off the depth chart due to injury. FCB now #1 Brandon Douglas-Dotson, #2 Jorian Clark. BCB now #1 Justin Bickham, #2 Isaiah Richardson. Hurts to have both the preseason starting CB's out with injuries (Banks & Ellis).
Rice's depth chart for the 9/23/17 FIU game has been released. Again, it is harder to track changes because the depth chart for each week uses the same link.
RG - Kenneth Thompson not on depth chart, replaced by Crockett Mokry as #1 RG. As a reminder, Thompson had replaced Corey Klinger, who is also off the depth chart. Apparently, Rice's #1 and #2 right guards are both injured.
QB - due to injury, Tyner is up to #1 with Smalls at #2.
WR - Austin Trammel has replaced Cameron Johnson as the #2 at one spot.
LDE - Wilkins is back to #1, Padgett is off the chart, and Brady Wright is at #2.
FS - Cole Thomas off the chart, Destri White moves to #1 with Houston Robert appearing at #2.
Anyone notice that Will Philips has been moved to Tight End? Also, does anyone know if Carl Thompson is playing this year? Is he receiving a redshirt?
It would be nice if our offensive and defensive schemes left our opponents as confused as I am trying to find the 2 deep depth charts. Me.big or Pan or someone else much smarter than me please tell me the secret to finding the depth charts.

Thanks in advance

All I had to do was ask and then I discovered that the link in big's post gets the new chart. As Edith Ann would say "Never mind."
