I went over to the ODU board to see any thread info on their upcoming basketball schedule, just to see if there were any confirmations on our assumed games.

There is absolutely nothing. It's hard to even find an active thread on men's basketball on there.

The busiest thread now is on their bowl projections.
Every one of our "peers" who moves to FBS kills their basketball program. Same thing will happen to JMU and/or Delaware if they make the jump.

Maybe you mean peer as in institution vice FCS.

If A10/CAA peer, that's certainly not the case for every recent conferencemate...UCONN's mbb program exploded after fb went to the FBS.

I meant our state and conference peers. UConn is the dominant public university in its state and, as such, not a peer.

And, in fact, they have been able to fund their FB program without taking money away from their basketball programS (remember their women!).

FWIW, I think when the big boys make their move in football, UConn football will not make the grade - and that won't impact their basketball programs either.

I agree with tribeinexile. First off, I remember that UConn's basketball program was very good and "big time" in the Big East years before their football team moved up.

Second, it's not like UConn's FBS football team is any good. I think it is more fair to say that they have struggled. Struggled with scheduling, struggled for wins, struggled for positive exposure. I agree that if P5 compression occurs then UConn football will be on the outside looking in.

Third, I note that ECU's basketball always stunk and so it did not really suffer from the move. Likewise, JMU's basketball has been bad for about 8-10 years now and Delaware hasn't done anything in basketball since Mike Brey left except accept that gift from the officials in the championship game against us. So, yes, those basketball programs might be getting short shrift compared to football at those schools but those basketball programs are/were not really that good anyway.
I cannot express in words how painful it is to watch our MBB program go backwards. It all started with Blaine Taylor's 5-25 season. JJ seem to be a savior with a 27 win season and the NIT FF in year two, but discipline issues and a few injuries have really killed our program the last couple of years.

The shame I feel leaving W&M Hall and our Ted after yet another loss to the Tribe is a very humiliating experience.
I think ODU's recruiting areas got some big competition over the last 15 years from places like Wilmington, VA Tech, Elon, and so on. They dominated that Tidewater, central/eastern NC area for a really long time. As much as I'm a big Tribe fan, I have family who went to ODU and are prominent in their history so I've paid attention. ODU went after a lot more Euros lately.

That's okay. The emotion you are feeling is payback for the exact same feeling that Tribe fans felt while losing the vast majority of games to ODU from the mid-'70s until Tony Shaver got acclimated. (When I was at W&M, a long time ago, ODU had just recently moved up from Division II about 5 years earlier. So that was even more humiliating, losing to what we considered a lower level school).

Payback accepted...

My high hopes for this year have already been lost with the dismissal of Zoran Talley (Strike 3) and an the ACL injury of the Big Man Transfer from Wake Forest (lost for the year).

I am looking forward to seeing our Redshirt Freshman from Williamsburg Christian Xavier Green.

I'm dreading my trip to Kaplan this year, but I'll be there to take my medicine.

Williamsburg? Is he any good? The last good player I remember from W'burg is Devonte Dedmon. The last good one previous to that? Some football player named Lawrence Taylor -- and he went to UNC!
We recruited Xavier. He is a good player.
