on my lunch break yesterday, it was reported on WTOP that Matt Brady had taken a position on Mark Sturgeon's staff at MD. Something like Director of Player Personnel.

That's pretty cool.

Might lead to a good opportunity.....
Good for Brady. Turgeon is pretty legit.
Matt will never have a problem landing a good job. He's a straight shooter in a world full of BS. If you ever got a chance to converse in a one-on-one you'd have quickly sensed this.
Interesting....what exactly does Director of Player Personnel do in college. He is not an associate or assistant coach? As I recall Brady did not seem to really have a great connection with players while at JMU, at least from my perspective.

Yeah, thinking the same thing. He seemed or at least was perceived to be disconnected? Lots of player turnover. idk maybe not.

I was thinking the same thing but then wondered if this is a way to have an additional coach on staff. Actually pretty smart. Make the player personnel guy a solid assistant (assuming the money is right since its the big 10) and get another coach on the floor.
Article in the Post's sports section this morning about Matt heading to UMD. Director of Player Personnel whatever that is or does. Hope things work out for him at College Park.

I randomly had lunch with him one time before a Monday press conference and he was as transparent as they came. This was the fall after Darren White transferred, before the basketball season had started, and he had quite a few thoughts on that situation. I almost couldn't believe how honest he was with me.
typo on Turgeon's last name...he's not the fish. From what I read, his position cannot recruit but is closely involved with player development.

The one thing that is tough to get out of him is something non-basketball. Clearly he lives his profession.

Brady has a real Sturgeon-Rowe connection...

It's gold, Jerry! Gold!!
Maybe this helps Coach Rowe get a guarantee game at Maryland. Brady did have him on his staff at JMU for a few years after all.

Wouldn't bank on that. I wonder if this was a proactive move by Brady. You have to think that Dr. Giannini is on shaky ground at Lasalle. They have a lot of guys coming back this year but I've seen them picked in the middle of the pack or as low as 8th in the A-10 based on how the team performed last season.

This position seems lower on the pecking order than the one Chuck Driessel had at Maryland several years back. I'm sure it still pays well and Brady will fit in fine. It takes him off the recruiting trail which he may like even though he was a solid recruiter.

Here's a description of the position of DPP from a posting on Indeed from UNC's football program. It may differ slightly for football, but I would imagine it's pretty similar.

Quote:Located in the Football Office in the Athletic Department, this position serves as the Director of Player Personnel. Responsible for strategic development and implementation of all recruiting program plans for prospective student-athletes for UNC's football coaches. Key to this role is establishing and maintaining effective relationships with High School Coaches; managing and coordinating all aspects of recruiting within strict NCAA rules and regulations; decision making responsibility for targeting recruits, selection order and input into scholarships offered. Manages recruitment database, develops list of prospects to attend summer camps; develops brochures, communication plans, scouting visits, assist with official campus visits.
