Per Kendall Rogers. Good for him. And maybe Berry can enhance the pitching; this is a good year to try a new coach, given the losses to the majors.
Go get Ostrander or Terry Rooney.
he should've waited, ULM is a dumpster fire

Potential successors as pitching coach at Southern Miss include current volunteer assistant coach B.A. Vollmuth, Jones County Junior College head coach Chris Kirtland, McNeese State's Cory Barton and Southeastern Louisiana's Daniel Latham.

Vollmuth has primarily worked with Golden Eagle hitters the past two seasons, but could be promoted to a full-time assistant if Berry chooses to adjust coaching responsibilities with the current staff.

If he's willing, hire Kirtland if Ostrander is unavailable. Potential successor to Berry. Plus he's won big in postseason.

Bob Gibson to Tim McCarver ... " What the hell do you want? You don't know anything about pitching except you can't hit it. Get off my damn mound."

I'm on this mindset as well
No on Kirkland. Just no.

If you're going to take that strong a stand, at least spell his name correctly.

This is a USM board.
Doesn't appear that Kirtland has much experience as a pitching instructor.

I kinda like the SELA guy if we can't get Ostrander.

Can't imagine we have the money to make Ostrander leave? Did Goff not offer him at Bama? Was thinking I heard that somewhere.

I know nothing about pitching coaches. Latham was a solid pitcher at Tulane and obviously had success at SELA. I'm sure he would be a good hire.

Who knows, though? Most of Federico's staffs at Memphis were garbage. Was surprised we hired him in 09.

Well if BA Vollmuth is on the short list, experience may not matter.

I was under the impression that pitching coaches actually did stuff. Assumed most were former pitchers or at least catchers. Am I wrong there?
Latham made $36k in 2015. SELA's head coach, Matt Riser, made just $63k that same year.

Berry will cite Vollmuth's one appearance in the 2010 Pontiff Classic as his pitching experience.

Also, apparently Giannini is assisting with the ULM search? That would explain a lot.

Someone with no ties to Meridian CC would be preferable.

correct, Ostrander was offered to go to Bama w/ Goff, but he didn't want to leave the area (he's from Monroe) and move his daughters so soon
As much as I would like Ostrander to be the guy he's not listed on any list from any article as a possible replacement. So is this just conjecture at this point or do we know that he's on the list?
