FWIW - This was already posted in the thread on 2017 Old Dominon Basketball Recruiting Den and has garnered some responses.
Why don't we recruit some freshman instead of these retread 5th year guys? What do you say Jeff?

By my count we have had 2 grad transfers: Arledge and McClinton........ and I would say that the Arledge "retread" turned out well.

People just like to find reasons to *****. If I recall, the same people complaining (on both threads) were saying the kid was garbage and wouldn't help. So not sure why people are moaning now.07-coffee3
Feels bad for the kid. Jones has to file an appeal to give him another year of eligibility?? Seems like a crazy rule.
What is Greg's chance for getting the year back? Thought that the NCAA was cracking down on the extra year. Tuff break for the young man, wish him a quick recovery.
We're stuck. We will have to honor his scholarship and I doubt JJ will be allowed to use the remaining scholarship this year.
He should be able to get the year back. He hasn't played a game yet.

I don't know. Based on previous NCAA rulings if he was wearing and ODU t-shirt at the time they may actually take a scholarship away from us.
Here is my question. Why would he want to? He's already graduated. He can be enrolled here and working on his Masters if he wants, but other than needing 2 years to finish it, why would he want to prolong his college days for 2 years just to play one? For me, being virtually at the end of the road and tearing up my knee would be enough to say No Mas.

Fair point. Coming back from that injury will be hard enough. Coming back to the point of being in D1 game shape for one season may not be worth it. I guess we'll see.

Up to him then. He might like playing college ball and not want to go to Europe to continue playing.

After my last game, I would have done almost anything to play another year. He may feel like he deserves to have 1 more year. He went from very good recruit to barely playig to having a chance for significant minutes. Not sure what he will do, but that could be his thought process. 1 solid year could put him in international play.

Well he left Wake to come to ODU, so I would assume he really wanted an opportunity to play on a team where he could get a lot of minutes before finishing up his college hoops career... or maybe you are right and Manning didn't want to renew his scholarship and he just moved on to get a year to work on his masters while on scholarship.

What I'm saying is he now has to invest 2 years in order to play one.
Moreover, he will now receive a 2 year scholarship at our expense (if the waiver is approved by the NCAA) with the possibility that we have to land someone this year to fill the void created by his injury so in effect we could potentially be "paying" for 3 years of scholarship money.
Another Jones "impact transfer".

Our total lack of depth means that this will be felt even more than it should.

Or more accurately, it won't matter at all because we weren't going to be an NCAA tourney team with him, much less without him.

Poor recruiting has put us in this position, plain and simple. What position is that you might ask? The possibility of a hampden Sydney transfer needing to see significant minutes in year 5 because our coach was not able to recruit enough depth to replace him.

Dust off the resume Jeff (and take Wood with you).
I think we could very possible be looking at Jones's worst season here.... perhaps even bottom half. Hope I'm proven wrong. Remember, Porter and Stith can't play at the same time because of muh system and Kah can't play defense. Stephen Vassor, therefore, is a probable starter. Let that sink in.

Vassor won't start (pending something awful concurring to 2-3 more players). Carver will get the minutes before Vassor will.

Forgot about Carver. Is he better than Vassor?
