They are not firing Pitino. Seriously.

I have said this elsewhere, but UL fans LOVE this type of thing. In their own minds, they exult over being the "bad boy" program of the NCAA and I think it makes them feel like success when their coaches and/or players are involved in scandals. (As in "If you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough." Therefore, this is proof positive of their coaches doing a bang-up (poor choice of metaphor??? I think not!) job.)

And when Pitino does eventually retire, I would be willing to bet they are not going to poach Mick. Why? Because (a) they consider UC "below" their stature and so they're more likely to go somewhere else, and (b) because Mick runs a clean program and they, as I said elsewhere, don't want a "clean" program. The last time they brought in a "clean" guy to clean up a major program was when they replaced Bobby Petrino with Steve Kragthorpe... Then they got really mad when Krags (who was an incompetent boob, FWIW) ran off all Bobby P's "talent." They won't go that route again.

So, I see no punishment for Louisville at all in that.

Pitino misses five conference games. He still runs the practices, but gets to stay behind on game day with whoever his new mistress is.

Louisville is on probation for four years. No word on lost scholarships or any other punishment. I guess that means they get in real trouble if they bring the strippers back in the next four years (in five years, no problem).

Louisville may have to forfeit some old games. Does anyone care if their record for 2012 gets adjusted to 0-30? No word on vacating their national championship, so no harm there.

I've lost faith in them too - case in point UNC.

I would say Gregg Marshall, but then again Wichita State fans would argue it is a lateral move for him at best.

If they have to vacate wins - like the 2012 BE Tournament Championship, does that mean we get it? or does it just vacate and no one is the winner?

No one is the winner. It does not count as a win for us either.

The bigger question is whether UC will see any additional money as a result of them having to forfeit NCAA tourney credits from 2010-2014. Could be a nice extra chunk of revenue that has to be split by UC, UConn and USF (2010-2013, and the rest of the AAC sans Tulsa and Wichita for 2014).

I'd be surprised if Mick was a factor. Mack could be. He's proven he can recruit at a high level. Who knows. But Rick is probably going to retire here in the next couple of years.

It's a slap on the wrist. They have the embarrassment of vacating a title, but nothing systemic is being done to the program that will slow them down one bit. God damned shamockery.

Still considered a loss in our books, but it's more like we forfeited against no body. Jerks.

Garbage University, garbage athletic department. Ramsey, Jurich, Pitino, Petrino, all scum bags. They are all up in arms over the severity of said penalties. What a joke. UL is a national punchline. I hope their fans and graduates are happy.

To be fair they had a self-imposed postseason ban for this incident. Without that the NCAA could have issued a ban and perhaps for more than 1 year. So I don't think they really got off scotch-free as some might like to think.

Self-imposed bans are awful. The players at the time get penalized that had nothing to do with the violations. What they should do is not accept self-imposed bans for the current year, and accept them for the following year while allowing any player who wishes to transfer to do so without restriction.

The way the recent seniors at Louisville, Syracuse, etc. have been treated in regards to the self-imposed ban halfway-or-more through the season is disgraceful.

what's wrong with what louisville did?

This. Those transfers were thrown into the wind without a care by poor Rickie P. But at least they had some good scotch.
