Anybody else watch the first two parts of this on ESPN last night? Great, great documentary. Part 3 is tonight.
Part one was the 60s, I tend to forget that that the Celtics beat the Lakers 6 times in the Finals in the 60s. Jerry West is interviewed often, and he is still tortured by some of these losses. Especially the last loss in '69 when the Celtics were old, finished 4th in the East. And the Lakers were awesome. But still they lost by 2 points in game 7.
Part two moved to the Magic - Bird rivalry. Lot of time on the '84 series, maybe the best Finals ever. Again Lakers were favored, got off to 2-1 lead, up 14 in 3rd Q of game 4, and McHale clotheslines Rambis. Teams brawl, games turns into a scrum. Great interviews with M.L. Carr and Cornbread Maxwell. Magic chokes and dribbles out the clock, and Celts win in OT. Celts win in 7, and now Lakers have lost 7 straight times in the Finals to the Celtics.
Lots of Red Auerbach and how he got in the Lakers' heads. Just great stuff.
