Quote:A pioneering figure for beach volleyball in Canada, UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram has announced the hire of new beach volleyball head coach Kyra Iannone.

Is it just me, or does this opening sentence make it seem like Mark Ingram is "a pioneering figure for beach volleyball in Canada," instead of Kyra Iannone?

Shouldn't the sentence read "UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram has announced the hire of new beach vollyball head coach Kyra Iannone, a pioneering figure for beach volleyball in Canada?"

I'm hoping someone can correct me on this, because I think I saw similar wording, just last week, on a UAB article, and I'm hoping I'm just wrong.

Edit: Maybe I just don't know something I should: Is Mark Ingram a pioneering figure for beach volleyball in Canada?
Cheer Coach hire from last week.

I knew I had seen that wording before. The Cheer Coach announcement from last week read, "One of the nation’s most recognizable cheerleading coaches, UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram has announced the hiring of Cody Sellers as the Blazers’ new Spirit Coordinator." Apparently this is a template they are using for coaching hires, but it just seems backwards to me. Am I wrong in how I'm reading this?
You're not wrong. It's very poorly worded
They need the Grammar Nazi to come slap them around. They'll never forget proper sentence structure again.
I knew when I saw his thread, someone would be criticizing something.

Just as surely as there would be a random comment from you.

Is it wrong to expect statements from my alma mater's athletic department to be properly worded? In my view, it is a representation of the University as a whole as well as me as an alumnus.

Edit: I do think this is a very good hire.
