Fellas, I was having a conversation today with my colleague who is a Bama grad and something interesting popped up during the conversation. He brought up how his friends, classmates and even the school supports Bama Alum/fan owned businesses. I was wondering if you ever saw ODU promote any Alum owned business and do we have a list of Monarch owned businesses. I can only recall one and that is because i love beer and when ever i make a trip to Norfolk i head to O'Connor's for a beer or two. I do what ever i can to send few bucks ODU way when ever possible like Amazon smile etc. I would rather spend my money to help a fellow monarch grow his business and so here it is goes the list of known Monarch businesses. Please share if you know any.

Thanks. It looks like JAMES XU (Executive Vice President and Treasurer) is the only person on the executive team with an ODU connection, are one of the founders ODU grads?

They did a spot on Kevin OConnor and others. Not sure what Roar is but I assume it's something in line with what you're discussing.

The founder, Ting Xu, and her husband, the CEO, Frank Qiu, are both ODU grads.

The idea of formulating a list in order to encourage the public is a great idea. This needs to be coordinated with the Alumni Association and have a permanent spot on their website and in their publications.

Along the same line, I make it a point to identify the sponsors. And when I have the opportunity, I make sure I let them know that the reason why I am there is because of their sponsorship.

Every little bit helps.
My friend and fellow alum, Andrew Coplon, just launched Secret Hopper. It's a secret shopping and consulting business for breweries. If you want to sign up to become a secret hopper (if selected, you get free beer for a simple review of your visit), go here;

Luke Hillier is the CEO of ADS, Inc. https://adsinc.com/

Top Guard Security is owned and operated by ODU alums: http://topguardinc.com/hampton-roads-uni...-security/

Engineering for Kids was founded by an ODU alum: http://engineeringforkids.com/

Ron Ripley has his real estate company: http://www.ripleyheatwole.com/about.asp

Atlantic Bay Mortgage was founded by an ODU alum: http://atlanticbay.com/about/

Drew Ungvarsky is doing some really cool things with his business, Grow Interactive: https://thisisgrow.com/

Now, what we really need to do is find some of the restaurants and small businesses owned by ODU alums.

John Small, owner of Small's Smokehouse is an alum.
Press 626 Cafe is also owned by an alum: http://www.press626.com/
Of course, Larry Hill of LR Hill Custom Builders is a Monarch through and through: http://www.lrhillcustombuilders.com/
Most useful thread I've seen in a long time. Thanks and keep the list coming. We can make a real difference supporting these Monarch-owned businesses!
Patricia Perry, one half of a local philanthropic powerhouse couple, is an ODU grad (clinical psychology). Her husband Douglas Perry, is the other half, and they have been responsible for a lot of the recent big arts push (especially when it comes to glass art) in Norfolk.

Ainslie Group - Jeff Ainslie is a obvious one. He handed me my diploma.
At some point, someone will need to make a list that can be added to so we don't have to go through the entire thread.

Info should include, if possible: Name of company, location (city/county), type of business, name of alum.
Small business owner Peter Anastasopoulos from Chesapeake Pizza is an ODU grad.
I will be following this thread. I own a small business as well. (Commercial Real Estate Appraisal)
