What is interesting is that salaries are slotted year 1, year 2, year 3 and year 4.
One can easily see a pattern among them.

The other big thing is the signing bonuses and how it escalates dramatically as one gets to the upper two rounds.

POC will get around 65K signing bonus (guaranteed).

Now, if he plays the entire year his base salary is almost a 1/2M bucks for 2017.

Not a bad first year salary for a college grad. What 10 x what a new teacher would make?

I agree that lower skill players are paid poorly compared to stars, but even 4th rounder, Michael Roberts (TE - Toledo) got 600K signing bonus. Mr. Roberts can pay taxes, his agent, buy a new car, and buy a house in the Detroit area and still have a nice nest egg, esp. if he plays the entire season (that would give him income of 1M+ for 2017).

256 NFL draftees in the entire world each year. How many new teachers? Even a Bunsis can become a teacher!

BTW, the ones who really get screwed are UFA.

They put their lives and career on hold and get what say 10K to sign and participate in these spring off season workouts.

At least even if POC has an up and down 2017, playing some games but not being on the active roster for 16 games, he still has banked 65K plus a what pro-rata share of his 2017 contract.

Sounds like injured reserve. Isn't that where a team gets to keep a player protected for the season? I agree though, it wasn't very clear.

A good summary of IR/PUP in the NFL. Apparently they can't just kick these guys to the curb, and at least Jackson is getting paid as he rehabs.
