Eight dead including a deputy. This is my hometown. I went to HS with the shooter.
Damn.
That's messed up. Praying for the family of the 8 dead and the officer. I'm assuming his kids was taking away from him? Would like to know more of this story.

There's a video of him after he was apprehended. Basically said the deputy wasn't part of the plan but people couldn't stay out of his business. He said that his plan changed to death after killing the deputy. He wanted suicide by cop. But ran out of bullets. He's been arrested alot and always blamed others. I actually know the deputy and his family. It's just sad.
Tragic. A shame he just didn't eat a bullet if he wanted to commit suicide. So a black man murders a white deputy. I wonder if we will see the outrage over this by the libs here.
My wife and I were discussing why he didn't take himself out. Him and his brother are activist types. A year ago he was arrested and they put a video on FB showing how he was profiled and arrested for no reason. My thought is he knew there was no way out and it'd look better to be a martyr.
So here is an update. The shooter was released from the hospital on Tuesday and charged with one count capital murder and 7 counts of first degree murder. Survivors are telling their accounts of what happened. The 18 year old shot died protecting his cousin and a 16 year old was taken hostage and drove the shooter around trying to calm him before being left at truck stop and the shooter going to a final house. Reports from there say he talked to his wife when he finished saying see what I've done for you before leaving.

The service for the deputy was yesterday. Over 300 officers in attendance. Governor Phil Bryant spoke first at the funeral and hundreds lined the highway from the church to the cemetery which was 14 miles away.

They'll lay to rest the other 7 victims starting tomorrow through Monday.

Incidents like this have happened all across the country for as long as I can remember. This sounds like a pattern of behavior. My guess is that they decide suicide is the answer, kill some out of anger, and some because they don't want them to live with the pain of knowing that one family member killed another one. That's why I consider "I couldn't live without you" to be a potentially dangerous sign.

Familicide - Wikipedia
Quote:Of 909 victims of mass murder (defined as 4 victims within a 24-hour period) in the US from 1900 to 2000, more than half occurred within an immediate family. Although the total number of familicide cases are relatively rare, they are the most common form of mass killings. However, statistical data is difficult to establish due to reporting discrepancies.[7]

No comparison.

Vehicles and knives actually have another important purpose. Guns don't.

Vehicles, knives and firearms are inanimate pieces of engineering, nothing more. They do not do anything except sit there, quietly, safely, until the human interacts with it.

Because it doesn't go bang it's not a bad tool? These objects kill people everyday and are easier to get than a firearm.

So you are only concerned with tools that scare you and not the tool that actually kills more people each year.

That is neither here nor there.

I'm saying vehicles and knives have a number of different uses. Not quite as efficient for killing as guns.

Firearms are not designed for killing. They are inanimate pieces of engineered metal, wood and plastic that are designed to fire an inanimate projectile.
Can you imagine if the killer used an AR? Front page news all over the USA.
