CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics Mike Bohn announced Tuesday that baseball head coach Ty Neal has resigned his position for personal reasons.

Neal recently completed his fourth season at UC with a record of 91-130-1.

“We respect Coach Neal’s decision to step down,” Bohn said. “We appreciate what Ty has done to escalate the academic and athletic profiles of the program with an APR score which improved from 948 to 989 and an RPI which improved 147 spots over the past four years. We wish him the best moving forward.”

Cincinnati finished the 2017 regular season with a 28-28 record overall and a 10-14 mark in American Athletic Conference play.
You've got to be kidding me. Right in the middle of the tournament?
Well that's a shot to the nuts...
He actually was not in the dugout for the UConn game today
Dammit.

This.

Simply this.
Odd timing. I hope it's not a serious health issue for Mr. Neal or something of the ilk.

I have heard that baseball is near and dear to Mike Bohn, so hopefully he has a solid list of worthy successors that can continue the recent progress made and keep this incoming class together.
Some speculations going around ... Might have something to do with UC pulling the plug on the new baseball offices in MSS that was planned down the 3rd Base line but deemed too expensive

If it's not health related which we all hope it isn't. The timing and manner would point to a falling out with administration. We will probably never get the full story.
Uh, this sucks right? I do not follow baseball all that closely, but was he not building this thing in a very positive direction?

If it was about offices, I would think he would at least finish out the season
OhVarsity Twitter account speculates a possible Babcock-Neal reunion at Virginia Tech. They just fired their baseball coach.

Hope it isn't true, but if it is, Babcock moves to the seventh level of hell in UC athletics history.

If true, that's a special kind of ****** to not even finish out the season.

I'll wait and see. It's being said to be "personal issues". Could be something awful.

If it's just job hopping, well then, whatever. At least it wasn't under police escort 2 weeks before the biggest game in school history. Just the conference tourney after a lackluster season. But he did have the program headed in the right direction, despite this year's sputtering.

We may never get the full story if it's truly a personal issue, and one that apparently required him to quit his job. If he does pop up at VT or ASU, then that's a whole new ballgame, and I'll get the internet pitchforks all sharpened back up for us.

It should be a package deal and he'll have to take Tommy, too.
Certainly more questions than answers at this point. I suspect we'll learn more soon. I attended the game against UCF on Mother's Day; first time in a long time. Picture perfect weather, great stadium experience and a nice win. It felt as if the program was on the upswing this year but then again they struggled at times to finish at .500. That wouldn't make us very happy on the football field or basketball court. And certainly the loss yesterday was a downer. It's only one game but it's not as if UCONN is a destination school for great college baseball players.

So I guess we'll watch and wait. I do believe Bohn cares about the baseball program and may have felt four seasons was long enough to demonstrate more progress that what we've seen. Based upon my experience though, I'm also likely to buy season tickets next season and attend a few more games on fine spring days.

Hope it's not somehing bad in his personal life. The timing of this is just so odd to resign the day of the first conference tournament game.
I hate to see this. I liked they way he was building the team.

I take it you're referring to BK? He actually left the city with a police escort?? I had no idea...

To be fair, he had a police escort when he came to...and left...the Football banquet the day his move to Notre Dame broke in the media. I have no idea how far they actually escorted him, but I'd be perfectly happy if it were to the "city limit" (I'll toss in Lunken Airport as a "vertical limit" if he flew off...).

I don't think this is going to happen. The last coach at Tech had basically the same type of results that Neal has had at UC the past four years. They are going to be looking for someone who has been more successful. Some of the names rumored are ODU's coach, VCU's coach and USF's coach.
