Fox Sports Executive VP Michael Mulvihill on the rapidly changing landscape of sports television broadcasting

Very good podcast. Explains a lot what is going on in the sports television world.
He said that sports channels are largely subscriber fee based today over ad based.

Streaming content goes to 100 different re-sellers making it a different "ballgame" than having full control over the cable product.

The ratings for sports even if stagnant continue their relative rise compared with other forms of programming so their importance growing in relative terms.

Ratings ebb and flow for different properties in the industry and when they are up those properties receive a rights increase. The sports bubble is a figment of the imagination of sports writers. There isn't a true bubble per se.

It's going to be more stagnation that is going to drive more realignment and CFP expansion in the future rather than a decline, IMO.

I still think Amazon will end up being the new home for sports. Imagine how the can incorporate Amazon products or special sales for fans.
Yeah really, Amazon is a BIG dog sniffing around looking for some new trim to dominate
Talking about the RSN's is very true about baseball. Here in Missouri, FS Midwest and FS Kansas City flat out dominate ratings during baseball season. Lots of FS1 cross promotion on those as well.

Thanks for the post. Excellent listen, despite Cowherd, lol.
Sports will continue to be huge with tv advertisers as sports and news generally are not recorded and commercials skipped over like most other tv.

He also said that despite losing subscribers, ad revenue was going up because the cord cutters weren't watching sports anyway. Actual viewership was consistent or rising.

Amazon has distribution issues. I have 300mb Internet service and Amazon streaming has a lot of issues. Choppy video, pixilation, audio issues, freezing... they have a lot of work to do if they want to get in to sports.
