The 2017 Gavitt Games should be announced soon. Rumors are that Marquette will travel to Minnesota this year. I'd love a game against Northwestern too. Wonder what the other matchups will be.
yeah should be announced any time now. think we knew the matchups last year by now actually.
1 thing that we should see- the following teams have sat out already- and thus should be in this year....
Seton Hall, Marquette, Butler, Xavier

I know Mack said they aren't going to be in this year- but then again, Creighton said the same thing last year and they played, while Xavier was expecting last year and was left out.
I heard PC is out and I also heard PC will get Minnesota or Indiana. we shall see
Full lineup below. Villanova and Georgetown both get skipped. Michigan State still has yet to participate. IMO, this is a very strong set of matchups. We weren't given Rutgers or Penn State, thankfully - and Georgetown gets skipped in a rebuilding year. Very pleased with how they aligned this year.

Minnesota @ Providence, November 13
Purdue @ Marquette, November 14
Creighton @ Northwestern, November 15
Nebraska @ St. John’s, November 15
Indiana @ Seton Hall, November 15
Butler @ Maryland, November 16
Xavier @ Wisconsin, November 16
DePaul @ Illinois, November 17
As long as there's the Champions Classic, I song expect the Spartans to participate.

Everyone has to participate a minimum amount of times.
yeah, it's really weird with Michigan St not in yet again. though I wonder if some of it is the fact that Michigan St has not only the Champions Classic, but here's their early schedule-
11/14 vs Duke in Champions Classic
11/23-26 in Phil Knight tournament
11/27-29- ACC/Big Ten Challenge
but then also.....
12/1- Big Ten Conference Game
12/4- Big Ten Conference Game
the 2 of those due to the Big Ten tourney being early this year. So that's already 7 tough games by December 4. You can see not wanting an 8th this year.

Excellent point. They are required to play in the Gavitt Games three times, however, so they will be in it eventually.

I actually think the number is 4 times they are required to play in it. Conceptually that makes sense- 8*8 is 64 and 14*4 is 56. So 6 teams will play in it 5 times, 8 teams will play in in 4 times.
the number is 4.

from the announcement on the Big Ten site:
http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/sp...17aaa.html

Scheduled through 2022, the Gavitt Tipoff Games will be played on consecutive days in the first full week of the college basketball season. The series will span eight years, with games played at home sites. Each BIG EAST team will participate a minimum of six times, while Big Ten programs will take part a minimum of four times. Teams from both conferences already meet in some traditional rivalry games, and those matchups will continue in the upcoming seasons.

So- Michigan St will have to play in this 4 of the next 5 years. I believe Michigan and Ohio St are in 3 of the next 5 years after this one as well..
That's good to know. I have been told that Marquette is currently trying to schedule a home/home with Michigan State for the future. I wonder if one of those would be in the Gavitt Games.

both could be. Similar to what they did with Georgetown/Maryland.
