Best I can tell, this went totally unnoticed:

UC basketball adds former Summit CD star

With shooting numbers like that, I wonder if Sam Martin could get a meaningful minute or two in several games even as a frosh.
Well looks like we finally got that Mo Valley white kid who hits three's off the bench we've all been clamoring for.

Im happy with this pick up.
Great pickup, a true scholar athlete!

Just what does a preferred walk on get? A parking pass? Free football tickets? Just wondering.

Free tickets to sit in the notch for any FCC game he chooses.
Good pick-up. Chances he ever starts are slim-to-none, but if he's athletic enough to play defense at this level, he could become a specialist of sorts.

Preferred walk on gets the privilege of joining the team without having to go through the open tryout process.

This is how Mick keeps up the grade point level.

So, why weren't you making that comment when he picked up a black walk-on for last years team?
Was that walkon admitted to the UC high honors program on an academic scholarship? If not, you just answered your own question.

And whom would that be, play tell.......
Rob Blissitt?

I think Blissitt was recruited and played on the baseball team for a year or two and walked on for basketball one year.

Situations like Martin there is always a good chance he decides it is in his best interests not to pursue basketball and never sees the roster. Another possibility is that he becomes the player we are yelling for at the end of blow outs.
However optimistically it you go back and watch some film of Andrew Rowsey in high school Martin's shot, play and size looks very similar. If he is really dedicated
odds are slim on him ever being a threat like Rowsey but he might become a nice situational weapon off the bench.

That's what I am hoping for. Maybe a guy who comes off the bench 10-15 minutes a game as an upperclassman and shoots the lights out.
From the Youtube link:

Quote:Class of 2017 PG Sam Martin - Cincinnati (OH) Summit Country Day - is a crafty and quick point guard who can shoot, dribble, pass and defend.

I hear he's good working on transmissions too. LOL. Hey, if the kid can play and contribute then more power to him.
