What are UMass' thoughts on being in a conference of eastern C-USA/SunBelt/Independent schools?
It would certainly have a lot of merits and would be considered. Believe that the we are trying to please both Football and Basketball fans, so not sure how strong the BB would be. Think that is why the AAC seems to be the wish, but wishes do not always come true.
Nobody wants to take step backwards in Hoops - they may not have a choice down the road, but as of right now they are still shopping for the best of both worlds.

If Umass could find another arrangement that left them in the A-10 for everything but football (other than the AAC), I think they would jump at that in a heartbeat.

That's not going to happen. UMass will have to make a choice in the next few years. Go to a IA conference with all sports, most likely the MAC, CUSA or Sun Belt. Or drop back down to IAA.

My guess UMass will drop back down to IAA, to the CAA if they will take you. No IA conference wants UMass's horrible football without the Olympic sports. Heck UMass basketball has been just mediocre the last several years, not sure many conference want that either.

Not everyone gets their cake and eat it too. And that's what UMass wants. I'm guessing a decision will have to be made the direction UMass wants to take by 2020/2021.
When the heck are you going to show Nascar Bob (Marcum) the door?

Bob Marcum retied in 2009. Mike Hamrick has been the AD since July 2009.

Mike Hamrick

Dr. Stephen J Kopp Introduces Mike Hamrick

Dr Kopp passed away suddenly and unexpectedly late in 2014. He is sorely missed.

But then again a simple Google or Yahoo search would have given you this answer and would have taken less than a minute to do.
My bad, You guys were very good in both BB and Football and any down turned would have loved to blame on Nascar Bob.
