Just curious where you would rank your individual units within the SBC.

Here's mine:

QB - 1-3 (Tied with App/Idaho) - Brandon Silvers enters his senior year as one of the top QB's in the belt.
RB - 1 (Jordan Chunn and Jamarius Henderson (Memphis Transfer/85 on 247) will be nearly impossible to stop.
WR - 1-2 (Tied with Arkansas State) - Troy brings back 100% of its offensive yards, including all receivers, gets a deep threat back from injury, and adds huge playmaker Damion Willis from EMCC.
TE - 8 (Looks like we might use TE's more this year with Clark Quisenberry at TE. We're not a TE friendly offense but who knows.)
OL - 3 (Best O-line in the country statistically last year, but graduate three starters and a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick at tackle. OL Coach is Top 5 in the NCAA.)

DL - 2-4 (Troy returns some great interior D-Lineman, but must replace two ballers on the edge, including SBC DPOY)
LB - 4-5 (Completely gutted but top shelf talent is there to replace them. Will take some time for LB and DL to gel. These rankings should improve as the season goes on.)
DB - 3-4 (Fall camp and interviews indicate an improvement here. We'll have to wait and see).

ST - 3 - With Jabir Frye back, we should again have some of the best if not the best returners in the SBC.

HC - 2 - Neal Brown has shown he has the right stuff to be among the best in the SBC. Scott Satterfield is the best HC in the conference, though Blake Anderson is underrated.
OC - 2 - Neal Brown (Playcaller) should have the leagues best offense this year and certainly has the most P5 credibility. Kenny Edenfield (OC) has some good Troy offenses on his resume.
DC - 1 (Tied with App). Vic Koenning has an incredible P5 resume and has shown he can take anybody from nothing to something in a hurry. APP's Woody is phenomenal.
Disclaimer: I am trying to make a guess with some unproven positions.
I am putting in a range of rankings instead of an absolute ranking.

QB: 3-5 (We've got some really promising young guys, but the QB position is good this year)

RB: 1-2 (Wesley Fields and LA Rambsy are back. With a real offensive scheme they will remind everyone of how good they are. App is the only team that might be better at this position)

OL: 3-5 (Not a lot of depth, but have some talented guys at the top

WR: 4-6 (We have a good group of receivers for an option team)

DL: 5-7 (Lost good tackles and defensive ends last year, haven't done overly great recruiting at that position)

LB: 6-8 (We've thin, and not that great. Probably going to need our top-rated 2017 signee to step in here)

DB: Top 3 (Corners may be the best in the conference, safeties are pretty solid, too)

HC: Not that high.
OC: 3
DC: 7
I don't know enough about everyone else's position groups to really do this, but I tried. Mine should be more viewed as near the top, in the middle, or at the bottom; don't expect me to name which 4 teams are ahead or behind, etc. it's just a general feeling.


QB-6, raw potential to go much higher, but too young and inexperienced for now
RB-3, two really good returnees, a couple of solid backups, and some recruits coming in Fall who may push for PT immediately
WR-3, position gets used differently than in most offenses, but there is some major speed and talent there
TE-6, another position that gets used differently in our O, we'll see how it works out
OL-3, lots of ability here, key will be forgetting everything they learned last year

DL-5, some potential but I'm in wait and see mode
LB-5, very thin in experience, some good young talent
DB-4, still young, but massive amount of talent and speed, should be #1 DB group next year

ST-6, don't really know

Since we have a very young team it's going to be hard until midway through the season to really know how they stand up against other groups, but within our own team looking at the numbers this is the group rankings based on a rough 2-deep and recruit rankings at each grouping. So obviously I'd move RB's way up the list if this wasn't based on numbers.

1 - DB's (No seniors OR Juniors in this group, but there isn't a single starter that wasn't an .81 or above 3-star athlete)
2 - WR (This will come as a surprise to many this opponents this season I think)
3 - DE (No seniors in this group, but they are ALL 3-star athletes)
4 - S (Again, no seniors here. Both of our starters are young but really talented)
5 - QB (I watched the current #1 Shai Werts in the Spring Game and he's got the legs to be really dangerous and throws much better than our two former QB's)
6 - TE (We have a sleeper in this group that could turn into an all-conference type TE if we used that position more in the traditional sense)
7 - LB (We have one returner here that saw significant PT. This will be a work in progress)
8 - OL (After last season who knows, I expect better play because of better coaching)
9 - RB (They are only low on this list because Ramsby was rated a .76 out of HS. I have no concerns with this position as long as our starters stay relatively healthy)
10 - DL (Sapp and Ian Bush are going to be good for us, after that it's going to be all new faces.)

We'll be at or near the top at QB, WR, LB and coaching staff. Upper middle at DL. Middle at RB & OL. Don't know enough yet about TE & ST. Lots of promise this year at DB but based on history I won't get too carried away.

No way he'd give Blake Anderson a 1.
For USA:

QB - Have no clue who will get the starting job. Our starter was injured almost the entire season last year so it's hard to get a good feel for him. I have my doubts he will be the starter on day 1 this year. We will not have the best and we will not have the worst, that I'm pretty sure of.

RB- Top 4. Xavier Johnson never gets discussed on here because we are not competing for the championship (and had a terrible O-line), but he is a one of the better backs in this conference. We have a RS Freshman this year who was once committed to Auburn before they backed off close to signing day, a strong JUCO back that has the size we lacked last year. Overall, this will be the deepest we have ever been at RB.

WR- As of right now, probably bottom 3rd. We lost almost everyone from last year and I am skeptical after watching the spring game. I expect them to be better once they get some experience. I've seen potential to be really good, but the inconsistency worries me.

TE- Top 3. We are always stacked at TE and this year will be no different. The guys that backed up Gerald Everett (or redshirted) would have been starters at most of the other teams in this conference.

OL- Bottom 3rd until they prove otherwise. We have some new faces this year and from what I've heard they are tougher. But again, I need to see it to believe it.

DL- Top 5. Injuries decimated our DL the last 2 years, losing all 4 starters before the season even started last season. With those guys returning from injury and the guys who got experience last year, I expect us to be much improved on the DL.

LB- Top 4. We have more depth here than we have ever had. The question I have is who plays where and who gets the start.

DB- 1. Our defensive line didn't help our DBs last year, but we return a ton of talent. We have also added some new faces for depth that are very athletic. This is without a doubt our strongest position, IMO.

ST - Who knows. We lost one of the best punters in the conference and our kicker created a lot of high blood pressure last year.

HC- Top half. He hasn't had the same success in terms of wins and losses as many of the other coaches, but he is the only one to ever build a team literally from scratch (he sat on the steps of the Mitchel Center calling to recruit assistant coaches because he didn't even have offices) and have us in 2 bowl games within a decade. We are slowly building D1 depth without having to rely as heavily on JUCOs. We are now starting to spend more money on facilities with our Indoor Practice Facility and will hopefully be hearing news about an on campus stadium within the next decade. He has recruited very well considering the disadvantage we have compared to every other team (outside of maybe GaSt).

OC - Bottom 3rd until he proves otherwise.

DC- Top 3 (yes, I believe that). He completely transformed our defense last year, even without literally half of our starters on that side of the ball. Expect our defense to be a tough unit this season.

I've never had a response I just took credit for what people that did these ranking for a living said. They were right more often than the posters here but that was to be expected.

As I have posted, because I'm retired and no longer have access to my former employers rankings I'm going to go the 247 Team Talent Rankings for 2017 when they come out.

As far as a position I'll just add up the ratings for the players and see which team has the bests talent by position based on the ratings.

Here is the current 247 Ratings for the players currently on the A-State's 2017 Roster, but as I've said they are missing a lot of ratings. You can go see how your players ratings compared to theirs, and the other SBC teams in 2016.

Again, I know you guys prefer to create your own rankings but because there has been some discussion to use 247 as the "standard candle", I've inserted the 247 rankings shown on the 247 Commit List for the players not yet on the Team Talent (roster) listings, and the average ranking for the position.

Should be close to what will appear when they publish the 2017 Team Talent rankings for the SBC, and you can compare your teams rankings to any teams rankings, by position or whatever.

If you want to go by 247 recruiting rankings from 2014 forward GS probably is at the top of the of the conference or right near it.

There's no point in using that, though, because we know how good they are as college players and don't have to guess.

BTW, arguably the best backs in the league (IMO) are Jalin Moore, Wesley Fields, Larry Rose, Xavier Johnson, and Jordan Chunn. Wesley Fields is the only 3-star guy in that bunch, but just barely, and Moore has a rating of 0.700, which might be as low as it can be (not sure).
GaSo was second in the SBC behind A-State on the Team Talent (roster) rankings in 2016.

As far as your "we don' have to use" argument, that has been the trend since the dawn of the internet. Everyone thinks there opinion on any thing is as goods as anyone's, and they are wrong.

Most know just enough about their team to be dangerous and squat about any other team.

The reason I've been more right than wrong about A-State's overall success the last few years is I realize that I did not know squat and deferred to those that make a living knowing these things. Pretty much guaranteed I would be more right than the posters here.

You can point to examples like this on any roster but you need a "standard candle" and 247 is probably as good as it gets when it comes to these "for public consumption" sites.

Just that posters here asked how I would rate the various positions , and I just wanted to remind everyone I've never ranked anything, just forwarded the rankings and overall season predictions of the company I crunched data for..

Without that data I'm going to use 247, especially the Team Talent rankings aas the basis for my comments.

There's no point in using that, though, because we know how good they are as college players and don't have to guess.

BTW, arguably the best backs in the league (IMO) are Jalin Moore, Wesley Fields, Larry Rose, Xavier Johnson, and Jordan Chunn. Wesley Fields is the only 3-star guy in that bunch, but just barely, and Moore has a rating of 0.700, which might be as low as it can be (not sure).
This must be Larry Rose the IV by now, right? The III has already been in college for seemingly a dozen years.

As far as your "we don' have to use" argument, that has been the trend since the dawn of the internet. Everyone thinks there opinion on any thing is as goods as anyone's, and they are wrong.

Most know just enough about their team to be dangerous and squat about any other team.

The reason I've been more right than wrong about A-State's overall success the last few years is I realize that I did not know squat and deferred to those that make a living knowing these things. Pretty much guaranteed I would be more right than the posters here.

GS was on track to blow by ArkSt and the rest of the Sun Belt in the team talent rankings with Willie Fritz's recruiting then we got Tyson Summers who manage to drop 29 spots nationally and from first in the Belt to fifth all in one year. So with last years class being so low I dont know where we will land for 2017. This is a young team with little senior leadership as well so team talent is good on paper but young still. Our first FBS recruits are just now juniors or RS-Sophmores. That would bode well for next two years if we had a competent HC.

You literally do not have to drive more than four to five hours from campus to have access to literally as good as talent anywhere in the country and he cant out recruit Hawaii.....He is trying to claim the 2016 class as his own but most was Fritz and anything he added was off the momentum Fritz created. He is already making excuses about 2018 due to being a smaller size yet Fritz did fine two years in row not signing a full classes. I hope Cook is the real deal but either way it will be settled in two years good or bad.

With my rant being finished with us losing so many seniors most is TBD and is just a guess.

LB-4 TBD new faces but none will be as good as the last two years. Eligwe leaving was a huge loss for us.

I love the "rants" fans bring to the table. I live in a "macro" world when it comes to college football, and love the details that come from the rants of fans. Lots of good info in those rants.
