"William & Mary grad transfer Jack Whitman tells me he plans to visit George Washington and Clemson. Immediately eligible."

Interesting, as Clemson has 13 slots spoken for, unless someone moves on. GW barely has enough to field a team, so, plenty of room, but playing time??

If he goes to GW he could be playing against us...one of the colleges we've been working to rotate into our schedule is GW.

Idea is to have Richmond, VCU, ODU, GW and George Mason rotating in and out of our schedules over a five or six year cycle with home and homes.

Might as well just join the A-10.

As an outside observer of the W&M program, I'm honestly shocked that those are the schools he's considering if he's leaving the Tribe. I assumed he'd want to look for a place where he has a realistic shot to make the NCAA Tournament, and neither of those schools are in a great position to do so. But maybe he's just looking for a change of scenery, who knows.

I guess Clemson makes some sense, since they lose their starting center to graduation but they still have some big bodies returning that actually played minutes last year. Not sure he'll get much run if he ends up there, but I could be surprised.

He'd likely end up playing a big role and lots of minutes for GW, but I think they're going to be going through a rebuilding process.

Odd choices in my opinion. I wonder if he thought there would be more demand for his services and that ended up not being the case.

Does anyone have an idea as to whether Jack visiting these schools because: a). they have graduate programs that appeal to him; b). because they are places he wants to play; or c). to generate some "buzz" in recruiting circles that might get him a more favorable offer?

Jonathan Holmes just started following GW transfer Kevin Marfo, 6'8" PF/C, 3 years eligibility. What goes around possibly comes around. Visits scheduled to Seton Hall and Quinnipiac. Would be a very nice add.

Just going to say it: After a few years in our system, Jack lost his starting role to a true freshman on a team that was very thin at that position. He obviously just wanted out and it's probably an any port in a storm situation at this point. A guy like Cacock would have viable options should he leave UNCE but Jack's ability to contribute on a good team is not something I see happening.

If Jack finds a right fit for him...best wishes....Would expect Tony has pushed Jack ("Log") very hard to get him to realize his potential. We certainly saw that potential in that two minute 2nd half stretch against Hofstra, where he channeled Terry Tarpey on steroids, after not starting. He had not in previous years displayed any of the toughness he showed throughout this season. I fully expected Jack to take his play to another level next fall and have a monster senior year. I hope he will not make an emotional decision, and will include staying in the 'Burg in the options he weighs. You always hate those people/situations where you're pushed to your limits, but love it in hindsight.

I tend to agree, and his lack of development is something we've seen from many players, but usually not with our big men. Just the added depth would've been important for this coming year, I imagine. Still, I wish him the best in his endeavors.

Not sure I agree with some comments about Jack and playing time. He was hurt for three years and last year had a very good season. I don't agree that he "lost" his position to Knight either. Looking at their stats they were pretty much equal in terms of per minute. Jack started all but five games.

With that said, you can see the writing on the wall. Knight has much more upside and unless Shaver put in a two big man offense Whitman would split time at best next year.

A few other things that are obvious to me. Whitman is more of a low post center with good moves around the basket. He's not going to get that in Shaver's offense. Two, if Whitman wants to play over seas, he needs show film in an offense that is more similar to a pro style offense. He's not getting that either. Third, his class is graduating and unless he's friends with a lot of under class students, it may just be time to move one mentally

I think he'll be fine somewhere else, and don't be surprised if he has a better year than this one.

Along with Rowley, I thought Whitman was one of our most improved players. I don't think he is transferring because Knight is getting more minutes or spotlights. Idk what his thoughts are, but I hope he does well wherever he ends up. We move on, but we need to find 1 or 2 big bodies if we are to compete next year.

THAT is patently false. It doesn't pass the eyeball test (Jack came out of games as part of a normal rotation), and it certainly runs counter to what Tony said on many occasions during the season, which is that his intent was to try to split the game between his 2 big men.

Jack DID lose his starting job, but one could argue that it was a result of a late-season illness. My recollection is that Jack did not start any of the last handful of regular season games. He DID start the 2 tournament games, however.

I could agree with that but there were certain times during the season where we needed him most, he was in foul trouble.
