It's that time of the year when columnists engage in flights of fantasy so they have something to write about.
Something has to be done and the sooner the better
Sucks that we're going to be on the outskirts of either "league" if anything like this ever happens.

Here's our ideal league (would suck not playing UTEP/Rice anymore) which would never happen for obvious reasons:

UAB
WKU
MTSU
La. Tech
Marshall
ODU
USM
Charlotte

Add 2-4:

App. State
Georgia Southern
Troy
Ark State

Georgia State
ULL

Couldn't agree more...same 8 C-USA teams I posted about on C-USA Conference Talk board...those 8 teams plus 2 more EAST of the Mississippi then play an 18 game round robin schedule in basketball and either 8 or 9 conference games in football

if I had my preference it would be

ODU
UNCC

WKU
MTSU

UAB
GA ST

USM
USA

FIU
FAU

Each member has a nearby conference foe. All schools are located on major interstates and for the most part near major airports. The Florida schools have made the investment in football and will improve.
with the football playoff money limited to ten teams there is no reason to have more than ten members.
You play a nine game conference schedule in football. Every year you play everyone in your conference. that will build rivalries based on a history not an artificial trophy.

Eh...that looks like a bad conference though. Losing Marshall and La. Tech would be a mistake at this point due to football and bball results. The Florida schools right now have been the worst additions to CUSA unfortunately purely based on combined football and MBB results, but I'm hoping they turn it around with their football hires. North Texas was third worst the past 3 years.
Norfolk is more than 5 hours from Charlotte but I get what you mean. My preference is UAB/GSU to AAC,
Ok. It's legit now. Two worthless sources have mentioned it.
One less automatic bid for all sports except football. At least the runner up can get a year's subscription to the Jelly of the Month Club.

Lots of CBI and CIT invites for basketball. You can forget the NIT unless there is an upset.
But hey, we can travel across the state (Doug Segrest) and play conference games.
12 years ago we played conference football games against Louisville, TCU, Cincinnati, South Florida, and ECU, among others. Now we're talking about merging with numerous FBS upstarts?! 03-puke

Killing the stadium and thwarting realignment was the smartest thing the BOT ever did.
C-USA basketball was about 26th in the RPI this year. Two of our east division members are lucky to get half the actual butts in seats as we did in football. I find it hard to believe being in a regionally divided conference could be any worse than the current C-USA.
Make that 3 worthless sources.
