A few UAB items:

-Amended the campus master plan (stage I approval) to include a new $25M 36,000 sq ft IT center. Would be located on 9th Ave S and 17th St S.
-UAB has withdrawn plans to expand the Commons dining facility because they now want to build a new, freestanding dining facility after the campus housing study is complete. Basically, in the next couple years UAB will build another new dorm and also build a new dining facility next to it.
-The next phase of the new intramural fields going across 6th Ave S from the football ops center was approved

So you bring football back, enrollment increases, now not only do you need a new dining facility, but you need another dorm. Wow, I bet no one expected football to have that kind of impact.
Johnny Johns is resigning from the BOT and will be replaced by Stan Starnes (CEO of ProAssurance). Both are UA grads, but have supported UAB. Starnes is a member of the UAB Athletics Campaign Committee and I believe ProAssurance gave a 6 figures gift to the football facility.
Is there a story behind Johnny Johns resigning?
Yes. He wants to remain on this earth.

Paraphrasing, but he said even though there was some turbulence in his time on the board he thought each campus was in a good place and he wanted to step aside while things were trending upward.

It's my understanding that Johns was instumental in turning several BOT members towards favoring reinstating football.

Pretty strange HE steps down after only 1 term.
