My brother (UT alum) lives in Cincy. He texted me tonight to say Northern Kentucky University just across the border, in their first year of D1 membership won the Horizon tourney and are going dancing. Yep, 36 yrs and counting right? This would be 37 if we don't win 3 straight.

NKU will also host UC games next year as UC is renovating its arena

How is UC getting all this money to renovate its facilities? First the huge renovation to the football stadium, and now the basketball arena? They aren't that much of a bigger school than Toledo, I just don't get it. Why doesn't Toledo have that type of money?

Yeah, people don't realize how huge Cinci is. Always surprises me that they're not very good in football.

What?! UC is twice the size in enrollment as UT? You never would expect that after touring the UC campus.

I always thought it felt cramped as well.

* Asterisk: The Toledo metro area does not include the areas of Monroe (Monroe, Temperance, Lambertville, Erie, Whiteford, etc.) or Lenawee (Blissfield, Riga, etc.) Counties that border Toledo or Lucas County. The U.S. Census Bureau consider all of Monroe County as part of the Detroit Metro area when doing statistics. So the Toledo Metro area according to them stops at the state line. Whereas, the Cincinnati Metro area includes Northern Kentucky.
Always have issues w/Toledo metro area quotes not including our footprint in Michigan. We were almost appropriated as a MI city in a war in not so distant past. Myopic census stats; no on the ground, personal interview type data collection involved. Even stat sampling vs suppositions would assist here.

So add what? 75K more? Doesn't change the difference by much.
I hate to nitpick, but they have been d1 for 5 years. This is just the first year they are eligible for the tournament. If we were in a week conference we would be in the dance often. just the problem is we are in a big, good conference, that gets 1 bid. Real tough to get in

Church makes a good point here...... Some conferences only have 8 to 10 schools in them and are treated the same as the MAC that has 12 teams. The extra 4 teams (over an 8 team conference) reduces the odds of winning a great deal.
But it wasn't a long time ago Northern Kentucky was DII. We've been DI from the start.

The Horizon is also a pretty decent basketball conference.
