If UAB doesn't win the Conference USA Tourney, an NIT bid seems extremely unlikely. Would we consider accepting an invitation to the CBI, CIT, or new Vegas 16 tourney (which ODU won last year)?

Doubt it since it costs money...
I hope not. Wouldn't we have to pay to be in that tournament?
I would hope we decline participation in any pay-to-play tournament...
Don't think we would get a invite to them either.
If I could play devil's advocate for a moment...

Is the extra competitive basketball not worth the price we would pay to gain experience for the team and coach?
I would do it but I am in the minority. I think more like a coach then a fan because I've done it. If you can play games you play games.

Just to clarify. I think the Vegas tourney covered travel expenses and the CBI only costs if you have a home game. That's why our ladies played on the road ubtil the championship game one year. Btw I went to the game and had a great time.

As stated above I don't know we would be invited to either one. I doubt it unless we win out and lose in the championship game. They maybe and it's a weak maybe.

Even if we had to pay I think it would be worth it for getting not only the team but especially the coaching staff more experience.

The power teams are taking over the nit as well so we will are already relegated to at large bids in these things anyway. We don't need to be snobbish about it IMHO
we are a ~.500 team from bottom 10 conference, we don't deserve to play in the post season unless we earn it in our conference tourney. Welcome to the Rob Ehsan era!

Who would benefit the most?
5 seniors
2 juniors
2 sophomores
2 freshmen

If invited, we should go. Rob and the other coaches need the big game experience. The Players need to see a chance at a trophy.
I say save the money. This team needs some team building activities and a chance to get beat on by some overseas semi-pro teams before next season. Like we did a couple years ago. That might help more than a meaningless tournament.
Spend the $ on recruiting trips. These last two spots are huge for our future. The '17 class will be the foundation of our team after next season.
Think we should use the money this year in any unpaid tournament and invest some in upgrades to the Arena (Bartow). Like an overhaul to make it more fan friendly, new weight room would also be good maybe some lower new seats (movie style). New Concessions (Full Moon Barbeque). And removable and removable seats any way to put some box seating in that Arena. For you know some of the Big Guys maybe not. See, I really like all those new football facilities, But this is a Basketball team School first. So, We need some upgrades to keep pace to keep all those basketball donors jumping. (Or just a total rebuild of the Arena) What's Next the sky is the limit.

How much do you think playing in those tournaments cost?

Are you personally asking me? Well Travel and Board and Food. To Start - And to slip a few fans in their with the cost it adds up pretty quick - Revenue made(From the tournament) - tax deductions - with expenses added most of the time the cost is paid first - back any profits. A couple hundred thousand would be a good, Start. (If any Hotel and Restaurant adcentives are given - well its a all new story)

My point is that an overhaul of Bartow isn't something that can be accomplished financially by simply skipping out on a tournament.

Because the P5 is taking over the NIT and NCAA is why we need to stay consistent and not play their game. These Micky mouse tournaments were created to throw bone to the team's they are throwing away. Tell them to shove their bone.
It cost 40k to host a home game. The upgrades for Bartow will cost quite a bit more than that. We are probably looking at 2 - 3 million easily including a practice facility and thats if ingram doesn't get a wild hair to reduce capacity and put in luxury suites like WKU. You could throw three more mil.

Want to help recruiting? Build the practice facility we promised Haase that never happened.

And a lot of what he is saying has already been done.

If invited, we should go. Rob and the other coaches need the big game experience. The Players need to see a chance at a trophy.

The players have had multiple opportunities this season to get a trophy. They have another coming up in a week or so. If they're 0-3 at trophies at that point, I don't think they deserve to get another.
