I am an OOTer and I am just wondering aloud here:

We know that Cal brought in some big time, out-of-state talent like DRose, DWash, DaJuan Wagner.

My question to the knowledgeable Tiger fans:

Since the Bartow era, I know we have Larry Kenon who was a big time out-of-state player, but besides Larry Kenon, can you list big time talent that came to play for the Tigers that were NOT from the area and were not recruited by Cal?

I know that CJP's big out-of-state recruits were Shaq Goodwin and Will Barton, but other than that, what is the list?
not always out of state, just not from the Memphis area

a couple just off the top of my head - and I am trying to stick with the big time talent definition, so many players like Johnny Mac, Montrell Nash, etc. are not included

Dexter Reed
David Vaughan
Derrick Phillips

Bobby Parks was not from the Memphis area

Omar Sneed

Grand Junction only about 35 miles down Poplar---Middleton about 50.
Out of state - i.e. TENNESSEE:

KEITH LEE
CDR (I know, Calipari) was first team AA - that's pretty huge.
Sneed
Kenon
Goodwin
Barton

I think Russell Young would've been a really good one if not for the knee injury.
Lee was from the Memphis metro area, so I didn't include him

Hell, let's throw in Shyrone Chatman if we're discussing Russell Young

He said out of state.

West Memphis is Arkansas.
Other decent players - Chad Allen, Sunday Adebayo, Jermaine Ousley...how about Kelly Wise - he had a nice career statistically.

Why not - Wise, Chatman and Forman were all good players, not great, but good.

Right - which weighs more - Vaughn coming from Whites Creek or Lee from West Memphis?
agree on Kelly Wise

did Cal recruit Chris Massie? I think he did

Was Cheyenne Gibson from Memphis - I think he was, but if not, he definitely belongs here

Hey tigerengineer--I didn't mean to add to your post. I meant to reply to your post---I must have screwed up in some way--I apologize .

only DDRAMONE can answer that for us
The 08 team was almost all out of state: CDR, Antonio, Dorsey, Dozier, Rose, Taggart.

Doneal Mack was on that team as well.

Rodney Carney was from Indiana.

the OP stipulated the list should not include guys recruited by Calipari

Thank you!

And to answer the question higher up in the thread, I would NOT include David Vaughn or Keith Lee since - although technically out of state - they are from the Memphis area.

And it seems like it pretty much comes down to Kenon, Barton and Shaq Goodwin.

The point remains: unless the Memphis-area HS bb talent is really, really good (and there have been some down periods) I really don't think Tubby is going to magically land some big time out-of-state talent.
DJ Stephens was pretty good.
David Vaughn was from Nashville, Dexter Reed from Little Rock
Will the Thrill Barton
