Full Version: Minium: UAB football returns to Conference USA in 2017 after a 3-year absence

This guy needs to find a new line of work. He sucks at math- it has been a 2 year absence, not 3. And then there's this sentence: "UAB was unloved by its fans..." What does that even mean? It is a contradiction in terms- if you are a fan, that necessarily means you love UAB. That is the definition of "fan." If you don't love UAB, then you aren't a fan.

Dec 2014 to Sept 2017 is close enough to 3 years for the author to catch a break on his math. The rest is just a supposition based upon the idea that no university would shut down a FB program except for the reasons the administration offered. Now if a local writer said that, I would be more concerned since they know the UA System BOT better than a guy in VA.

When talking about sports, I and you say year, it is implied you mean seasons. It has been two seasons. It has not been three years since we have had a team. We have had a team since June 2015, they just haven't played in two seasons.
Minium is a veteran sportswriter. He's been at it for 30+ years.
I think we could probably go back to some threads during the McGee/Callaway eras and justify the "unloved" position...

Does that mean 360+ months, or 30+ seasons? 05-stirthepot

Eh, I don't know. I've been a Miami Dolphins fan for 15 years or so, and hated them for most, if not all that time, until this past season. It's possible to hate the team you root for, you've just got to be a cynical SOB to do so.

But I agree with your main point, terrible article.

Doesn't mean he's good at it. Hell, Paul Bryant, Jr. has been a human being for 70 years and he still sucks at it.
What does it matter?

We haven't had a team play a game from November 2014 until September 2017

Call it 3 years, call it 2+ years, call it 2 seasons...who cares?

Well, we know that...there are quite a few of them on this board.

I wouldn't go as far as saying I ever hate the team I root for, but I think what he's trying to say is it can be VERY difficult to be a fan of a team like UAB - both in football and basketball.

+1. He's a very good, very well-respected writer whose articles have been posted on this site many times w/o all of this crap...

Hmm...I wonder why you'd assume I was talking about you...
