I think they've been exploring every angle possible to avoid the inevitable. A scheduling alliance might have helped them to up their ratings, make a bit more, and avoid expansion. They might have seen that as a way to hold on a bit longer.
I guess we'll wait and see how it all plays out.

You're right JR, they have to do something to hold the league together until their GOR runs out.

True but why exclude the big ten if you're looking at a P5 alliance?

They weren't looking per se at an alliance with the PAC/SEC/ACC inclusive. My take is that they were feeling out each of them to find out what the might, or might not, be able to do and what they could get out of it. I figure they just realize that their identity would take too big of a hit with their own fan bases if they affiliated with the Big 10.
