Nick Cattles leaving 94.1....going back to Boston. The 9thbis his last day.
Guess I will tune in and see who the new guy is.
I think he will be much happier back in Boston. Does this mean there is a bar for sale?

"I’d also like to mention, that I will remain tied to this area, thanks to my bar, which I will continue to co-own with my business partners."

I believe that is a no. Here's a link his in depth reasoning for the move.

Hopefully they hire someone whose most discussed topics aren't New England sports.
I was just talking about him last night, in a "I wish he was gone" type conversation. Maybe I should play the lottery. Such a boring show. One of the reasons I switched to satellite radio. What bar does he co own?
when his sidekicks filled in for him recently, they gave a great look into the then upcoming Bahamas Bowl, talked strengths and weaknesses of ODU FB and Eastern Michigan...did a really good job

I never figured out why a local sportscast couldn't do the same on a regular basis, with Tides, NSU, HU, ODU and Admirals talk interspersed with national topics.
The odd choices like 'wiping while standing or sitting' showed the true nature of the show.

The only local concept for Cattles was to get an arena and a NBA team to VaBeach, he did that so well on his forum.

Max Media needs to find a voice in line with OUR locality, not the north-east, the mid-west, Texas or the Pacific coast

Or Missouri! 05-nono
You probably won't find local folks ready to step in, but someone who at the very least can adapt to the market and what it wants/needs/doesn't want or need. Or they can save a few bucks and just run a few more hours of ESPN

I think both those guys went to ODU. They do a show the last hour, I think once a week, and they often talk a significant amount about ODU.

I remember the day I left Norfolk for the last time after graduation, I turned on 94.1 to listen to sports talk as I always did. I was never a huge fan of Cattles but I do like hearing about "national" sports news (it would always find its wab back up to the north eastern part of the country). At the end of his show, the punishment for deflategate was announced, and he stopped all he was talking about to explain that it was a huge deal and how he thought it was way too harsh. As his show ended he said he would use his entire show the next day to discuss this as 5 minutes was not enough. Boy was I glad that I didn't have to deal with that anymore!

I like the DC sports radio station, although I haven't listened as much because I have satellite now, and it would be nice to see if 94.1 incorporates something similar. I understand DC is a major sports town with 4 major professional sports teams to talk about (along with VT, Maryland, Georgetown, etc), but I always wished there was a little more radio coverage of ODU. I don't live in the HR area anymore so it won't really affect me, but I'm still curious to see which direction the station takes
More ODU coverage please!

What we need is more podcasts from the Pilot and ODU people. The only time I listen to the radio is for the post game talk after an ODU basketball game. Cattles really turned me off. I just didn't like his style, where every point he made had to sound somewhat aggressive. He was a Colin Cowerd wannabe. I don't mean to trash the guy, he is a good talker, but just something that I personally couldn't stand. I hope we find someone who will spend more time talking about the regional spots and the hot national topics, not just the ones from New England.
Maybe Monarch Asylum can get the replacement gig. His podcasts are awesome.
