No real surprise if true. Wish Shuler the very best in the future. Wonder if the staff has any leads on a good JUCO?
Can't say I'm surprised. I think this move has been written on the wall for quite some time.
Presbyterian/ Charleston Southern 07-coffee3
He's trying to graduate in May. Does Coastal Carolina need a QB?

But all in all, this is probably the best for everyone involved. Just didn't fit here.
Hope he finds a school where he will be able to compete for playing time. Seems like a good young man and I think he deserves a chance to go somewhere where he has the chance to be Shuler Bentley and not the next "Taylor Heinecke".
Best of luck to Shuler. He's a class act. He continued to show tremendous support on the sidelines even when things didn't go the way he had hoped. Speaks volumes about him and his family.

Wonder if there would be any interest in/from Corwin Cutler, the former star QB at Ocean Lakes who was a high 3 star and who left UVa after 2 years to play this year at San Jacinto Junior College in California. His stats for the season were OK though not terrific, but he seemed to have a ton of potential at one time. Here are his most recent highlights:

No surprise. Was hoping he would stay and compete. Hope he finds a good spot and Kills it.
It was interesting seeing him develop as a player during his time here and I am sure that he will continue to improve wherever he lands. I would assume somewhere in the Carolinas or Florida
Good luck and best wishes to SB. For both his and the Monarchs' sake, I (and I am sure many others) wish things had worked out differently for him at Old Dominion.
It is interesting though that it *seems* the QB spot is wide-open next season. I would assume that Shuler has some info on that though, and that's helping drive this decision.

You have to over-recruit at this level, so these things are going to happen. Good luck to him.

If he wants to go FBS, not sure where he'd be looking.
I think he's a pretty good QB and this isn't the last we'll be hearing from his success. Best wishes to him.
Watching him play, it seemed to me that he didn't fit in with the ODU offense style. Not sure why he didn't compete a little better. I wish him the best.
From what I've seen, we have some very good QBs on the board. Knowing our offensive style, and knowing Wilder, I'm positive that we will have the position covered very well. As far as Bently, I'm still surprised by this. I felt that it could be his turn if he competed. Wilder has been playing that kid from VB, who looks good to me by the way. I'm sorry that he's leaving.

I wish him the best. The issue with Bentley is he is a pocket passer that is not very mobile. Combine the fact that he is not much over 6ft tall and for the last couple of years our offensive line was marginal at best, he had no chance to succeed. He was in a tough spot following TH. We needed a mobile QB that was tall to run our offense.

I think he can play at a lot of G5 schools. He played really well down the stretch as a redshirt freshman. Very smart guy and Harry seems to think he's one of the best young men he's met. I guess his choice will be to go to FCS and probably be named starter immediately or graduate and transfer, but be behind the 8 ball because he will miss spring practice. He would be perfect for a school like Coastal Carolina. If he went FBS, I see good fits at Tulane, FAU, most of the Sun Belt schools.
I hate to see anyone leave, but I am not surprised and can understand his decision. If he felt like he was going to be the guy next year, he would be staying, but he leaves with a degree and a chance to play somewhere else for possibly two years. A pretty good deal. I see it more likely that he would go FCS and could be a real star, but I wish him well no matter what. He was a model Monarch while he was here from what I have heard.

FAU and Tulane had sophomores starting at QB, so he'd be left to compete for PT. FAU also had a JUCO transfer come on board right after Kiffin was named coach.

CCU had a junior and sophomore taking snaps.

I mean, I know it's not your job to find a school for him, but unless he was told something by the staff here, this would have been his best chance to compete for starting job and play for what could be another bowl team.

I'm guessing that there was, maybe not a falling out between Shuler and the staff, but maybe something just short of that.
