Illegal block clip

scroll down to bottom for the clip.

here's the rule: In gridiron football, blocking below the waist is an illegal block, from any direction, below the waist by any defensive player or by an offensive player under certain situations, by any player after change of possession, with certain exceptions. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a "chop block". Such blocks are banned due to the risk of injury, particularly those to the knee and ankle.[1][2] The penalty for a block below the waist is 15 yards in the NFL, NCAA, and in high school.

in contradiction to Jimbo's assertion, it looked like the Clemson player was in position to make a play, although Cook may have been able to break the tackle or elude him. can't just assume that though.

reason i post this is this is one of the calls in Clemson's favor used to push the narrative that Clemson has gotten bailed out by refs this year.
This thread won't end well.
that's not my fault though. people dont' want to be civil on here.

i don't plan to respond to their comments.

i feel like the bad calls in the pitt-clemson game were partly due to Jimbo, Petrino, and Pitt coach complaining about the refs after games and this narrative that clemson were bailed out by refs in FSU and Lville games.

here's a summary of some Clemson complaints about refs in FSU game: Regardless of that call, Clemson fans will counter with a missed hold in the endzone (which would have resulted in a safety) (i looked for the picture of this but couldn't find it, it is indisputable in my view), some missed false starts, an egregious facemask penalty, lack of holding calls on the FSU Oline, and some questionable PI calls.
You might as well dig up the footage of Carolina's on-side kick in last year's championship game. It would help to add credibility to your case.
I don't think you will get any arguments that Clemson has been the beneficiary of some "calls".
UNC player should have been called for targetting on that kickoff, plus their kick formation was illegal, they were too close to the sideline.

regardless, UNC was down 8, and doesn't seem possible their defense would stop Clemson in overtime given Clemson shredded it. no question Clemson was best team.

if you counting on onside kick recovery, td, two point conversion, scoring in overtime and holding clemson, you counting on a lot. personally i think the onside kick recovery is so cheap. possession is everything in football and there shouldn't be a cheap way to get it like that. onside kick is only reason Bama won the natty last year against Clemson.

You can't win a psychological argument with sports fans on issues of bias. Too many think they have full human agency at all times and that their decisions are truly all their own, not the sum of outside experiences.

A better question is what biases officials.
i'm not trying to persuade people on here, especially fans of teams that Clemson played. i understand it may seem like that.

i think what biased the officials in the Clemson-Pitt game is the narrative put out there by coaches and fanbases frustrated they lost to Clemson, because it hurt their post season prospects, and the notion Boelware is a dirty player based on him holding Lamar Jackson around the neck, and the suplex the week before.

but i don't think there is a penalty against a suplex tackle prior to the whistle. they penalized him for 'tackling him too hard'. lol jimbo wanted penalities on Clemson players who sacked his QB.

The call was for off-sides.
yes, you are saying it was a bogus offsides, which may be true, what i'm saying is UNC could have been called for targetting and illegal formation. anyway, perhaps UNC will get to play Clemson again. it wouldn't be that shocking if UVA upsets Va tech. Va tech laid an egg in their 3 losses this year.

but I think Dayes on NC State will have a big day against that UNC defense. he is underrated RB. wish clemson had him. and NC State's defense is pretty solid.

CBS Sports - Missed Targeting against UNC

CBS talked about the missed targeting calla gainst UNC on that onside kick play.

It needs it's own theme song.

Here's my suggestion

what's with this guy and Honey Boo Boo. 5 posts in a row now. what does honey boo boo have to do with a sports conversation. i don't get why this guy isn't banned. he is the obvious internet troll. he tries to turn every thread i post on here into a contentious thing. it doesn't seem like this topic would upset a typical Clemson fan.
So we're really saying ACC refs aren't very good.

So what we're really REALLY saying is business as usual.
yes, i have been saying SEC refs are much better.

here is a comment i saw about the UNC offside call last year against Clemson on another forum:

he NCAA rulebook Rule 6, article 2, section c, part 5 states: “All players of Team A must have been between the nine-yard marks after the ready-for-play signal [S19]”. The penalty for this is “Live-ball foul. Five yards from the previous spot, or five yards from the spot where the subsequent dead ball belongs to Team B, or from the spot where the ball is placed after a touchback [S18 or S19] (A.R. 6-1-2-VI).” Or in other words the same exact outcome as an offside penalty.

The penalty was not for the number of players on either side of the kicker or for a player running past the line before the ball was kicked. It was for the obvious player that can be seen on the outside of the 9 yard mark before the ball was kicked and after the Ready-for-play signal was given. Bottom line = PENALTY.
Personally I hope the entire officiating crew at this week's Wake Clemson game has ties to Wake and South Carolina. But that's just me.....
CJ
no doubt, personanlly at this point i would like to just give the ACC trophy and national championship to Lville, b/c Lamar Jackson. that seem to be how a lot of people see it. that is def. the most hyped up team since the Michael Vick va tech teams.

it is interesting that Lville fans have complained about refs in Clemson game for weeks but have a hostility to Clemson talking about refs in a game a few days ago. and the complaining about it by Petrino and Jimbo probably was one reason the refs so eager to throw the flag on Saturday.
If the officials were really that bad, wouldn't they have been disciplined by the league office by now? Or is the league office also against Clemson for reasons that make sense only to you?

It is literally bad for business for the ACC to screw over Clemson. Why on earth would they do that? It makes no sense.

Or was it just the South Carolina official? Or was it the entire crew who has an official who graduated from South Carolina because...uh, just because?

Your conspiracy theories are mind-boggling.
you are a Pitt homer who engages in ridicule. you can't defend those calls, you just say it doesn't matter.

I watched a portion of the Clemson & Pitt replay yesterday on ESPN. On the first PI that you are questioning the replay clearly showed that the defender reached out & got a handful of jersey as he struggled to keep up with the WR. That is defensive holding at least or as the ref called it PI. I know you'll just say that I'm biased but that's bs. It would have been better for Louisville if Clemson won that game. Can you look at it objectively? I can & I did.
