The Big 12 is not expanding now. I thought the Bearcats had little chance of going into that conference. I did expect Houston and BYU to be invited.
They may just be working out the details. No way the Big 12 lets Houston in the conference. They will not legitimize Houston and risk losing recruits.
I'd predict BYU and Cinci would be attractive candidates. I also don't believe anything I read regarding BCS leagues and their intentions. It's entirely possible it's already a done deal awaiting an announcement. Seeing is believing.
Mike O'Brien looks like a genius right now. Didn't waste UT time or money on making himself look good for trying when there was no chance.

Just need to keep the pedal down on improving the University and its Athletic programs.

So you guys are saying hanging out and being grouped with the #100 thru #130 ranked programs is a good thing???? Mmmmm.......

We didn't say that at all. What I did say is that the Big Twelve effort was a complete waste of time and I am glad that MOB is continuing to do what he can at UT with the resources we have.
The amount of money UC has spent on trying to get to a bigger conference is astounding.

Agree that MOB made the right decision; however, you can't fault UC from giving it a shot because (unlike UT and most G5 schools) UC actually has an outside chance of being invited to a bigger conference (as usual based more on their MBB than their FB program).
I completely agree.

UC was also light years ahead of UT though in this respect so I see why they forked over the money. They've vastly improved their facilities also.

If Oklahoma & Texas bolt the Big XII (maybe not likely for both, but certainly possible as the SEC and Big 10 look to consolidate ultimate power), then the Big XII folds anyway. Wouldn't that be interesting if Iowa State were to end up in the MAC? 05-stirthepot

Don't we have enough problems with teams in the bottom ten?

And they have 42,000 full time students

If the MAC starts taking on programs like Iowa State, then that means most of the current MAC will be 1AA/FCS. If 1A/FBS really does start to squeeze out programs that bring nothing to the table, what you currently see in the MAC, Conference USA, Sun Belt, etc. will cease to exist. The current power conference programs are on a much different level than the heavily subsidized non-power conferences.

Wow! I had no idea-thought they were in the Kent State range. That's amazing.

They were 39,000 in the mid 70's. Last I looked UC Blue Ash had over 5,000 students.

Why does their enrollment continue to increase anyways?
Was 32k in 2001.
Open enrollment???
Iowa State AD comments on what the Big 12 would be like without Oklahoma and Texas - compares it to the Mountain West.

I would love for Toledo to receive and then accept an invitation to the American Conference, if anything simply for the fact to get out of the MAC.

Heard an interview with him. Imagine what the Cyclone FB program would be if they weren't getting the big money from the Big 12. He tries to compare BYU/UCinn to the Big 12 to Rutgers going to the Big 10 and being over their head. The AD seems like a wimpy douchebag that knows they are lucky to be getting the Big 12 check and realizes there are better G5 programs doing it on a much smaller budget.
