I guess this is "ahh-white" with some of you.

Guess this is replacing the cannon as a new celebration of NIU togetherness and unity behind your school. Maybe the cannon was a symbol of atrocities???

I have no idea what point you are trying to make right now.
Nothing says unity like a race war eh? Love the fact the ns captured the "anti-white" sign. Nice

You're misreading that sign I think. It's says BLM does NOT equal anti white.
Peaceful Protests shouldn't bother anyone.
Somethings never change at NIU.
I had the chance to hear Dr. Baker speak before the game. He spoke about how the university is a strong supporter of first amendment right to free speech and how this speech could help lead to a more inclusive community. He was very proud of how the demonstrators remained peaceful and how the police responded to the demonstrators. Dr. Baker presented his view much more eloquently then I can present on an internet chat board. I support Dr. Baker in his quest to allow freedom of speech. The protesters were peaceful. The protesters did not infringe on any other students rights.

Bottom line - if it is a peaceful protest it is good for the university to listen to all segments of the student population. A university should be the place for intellectual discussions about the issues. Let's leave the hatred at the door and let's make everyone feel included.

I will also say - I was at the game and stood for the national anthem and was looking at the flag on the field and thinking about how proud I was to be an American, to be a NIU alumni and enjoying a beautiful day with my family at a college football game. I did not even notice the protest and did not become aware of it until I read some news later that night.
At least these students showed up at the game. I doubt they were interested in the game but the students in general are not interested enough to attend. Only 500 in the stands after halftime.

I'd rather have zero if it were only them. Doesn't appear to me that a football game was on their mind. They weren't there to support the school in any way. And how did i conclude? Not one has anything that says NIU.

Where do you see "Ahh white" in any sign??
Well now that the football season is lost, I'm not surprised that someone brings this up.

I always get a kick out of white people trying to tell people what it's like to be black. Easily one of the most entertaining things you can witness. Anyway, carry on, tell me again why folks doing this peaceful protest bothers you?

I will tell you - I have no problem with it at all. I 100% support peaceful protest and letting all parts of the NIU Student community have a voice.

Exactly, everyone should feel this way. Even on a national level. Every American has the right to protest, and it doesn't have to be in a way that people see fit either.
I will be exercising my right when it comes to donation time.
Thank you.

Just as I have a right to not support and take offense to certain people saying I "try to tell people what it's like to be black."

Show up at a game , get your coverage. Just like they did for 4 days in a row in the NS. Is that really the most important thing to cover? 50-100 students of 20k?

I just think when you go to a game with predominately white people who are there to support a team that it appears you could care less about, or at lease secondary, as you hold up why does my blackness offend you signs up, you are provoking a negative response already, not supporting a movement. You have made an assumption. Do it outside all you want. I could care less. But then to cover this? No, I don't think this helps anyone's gameday experience.

And feel free to disgree, judge. You are entitle to it. Just as I am entitled to an opinion as much as they are..

I'm trying to understand what you are upset about, From what I gather you are upset because the Northern Star covered a group of 100 people protesting at a football game? Even though the student body is 19K, they decided to cover these 100 people? Is that what you are mad about?

And since they were covered by the NS, mission accomplished on their end.

I think he is referring to the sign that says "Anh White". It's "Anh White", not "Ahh White". The later makes no sense.

I think we need some violins in the Huskie Band. Maybe they could replace The National Anthem with Hearts and Flowers.

The sign says "Pro Black does not equal anti white".
