Jones-Moore, Swanson, Thompson, I can see these backs breaking one for a long gain. I don't see anymore with Hunt.. I don't what it is, but when slightly in the open field, I don't see that explosive speed, unlike in the past, 2 years ago. I keep waiting for him to break one, it hasn't yet. Prior to the EMU game, his long run was for only 19 yards.

He draws huge attention. Still leads the MAC in ypg. I suspect he's a big reason behind Woodside's success.
Hunt, IMO, was his old self against BYU. I saw the hitting the hole, even if tiny, the acceleration...
I agree. Hunt looked quick and powerful against BYU.
I don't think it is just Hunt. While the running game has looked better against Fresno, BYU, & EMU, the Rockets are still missing the homerun in the run game.

My are we spoiled... I'm okay with 130+ a game and 5ypc. We get more than enough home runs via Woodside to Thompson. Flu wasn't a big play guy really. Lets remember where we came from here. Hunt may be the best back in the history of Toledo football. He will break some... Don't worry. But you can only score so many 30+ yard TD's in a game. We play BG this week... It will probably happen a few times this week. At least he isn't getting gassed after 80 yards and getting tackled on the 1 yard line like Swanson did TWICE last season.

Pretty sure it was Hunt got tackled at the one and Swanson who got the TDs.

No, it was Swanson who got caught from behind, if memory serves.

oh right, Kent St game was one of them.
Yes, it was Swanson. I want to see Hunt run like he did two years ago against Ark State in the bowl game. He was breaking tackles and pulling away from entire defenses. This year he's getting yards, but last week's 141 was a very quiet 141. He just seems slower to me.
Arkansas State's run defense was HORRIBLE in 2014. They also had about a million defensive injuries entering that game... Yes Kareem ran well, but he was more than rested in January and that defense was no better than a D2 defense. Lots of teams we play coming up don't stop the run well and Toledo will thrive.
hunt hasn't gotten slower. he ran behind a great 2014 line his soph year. he often hit the second level untouched and with his ability to both juke and run over safeties he could bust big runs routinely. he does dance a bit more now and gets a lot of pretty 7 and 8 yard runs beating defenders w a move or power, when he might be able to accelerate and force those guys to make a tough tackle at 5 yards and sometimes break those tackles and get a big gain.
Prediction: I think we will see a breakaway run in tomorrow's game by Hunt and/or someone else. Just like takeaways, we are due!
I just wonder how much the loss of the running backs coach is hurting him. I watch the way he runs now and for some reason he seems to think he is a reincarnation of Barry Sanders - he slows down for cuts and then misses the openings. He tries to cut back with nothing there. His vision seems to be more of an issue than his speed. I also have not been all that impressed with the holes this line has been creating - and no one is getting through to take on the linebackers. They almost always have an open shot on our RB's when they do get to the second level. Spacing is important, and we just clog everything up ourselves.
Yes he does slow down on his cuts, does that little stutter step thing killing his momentum. I'd be interested in the gains mapping left, center, right. Seemed BG bottled up the left side of our line pretty well.

Yes we must be spoiled complaining about 2 near 90 yard runs! I'll take one of those in every game. You have to "break one" to get caught! smh, Kareem is one of the best to play here but you don't have to diss another great one!
